Hamonic trade and Valimaki injury have made the 2017 and 2018 drafts almost a total waste

But I don’t love the 2019-2022 drafts either. Pretty middle of the pack

Draft and develop is not meant to be either/or.

I think the 2020 draft was excellent. Didn't love the 2022 draft at all.

Really when you look past the 2017 draft for games played the majority should come from 2018 and more from 2019.

Don't think the 20+ drafts are fully baked.

This comes down to a lack of picks in my opinion than a failure to promote or develop.

No pick in 2018 until the 4th round.

Only a total of 14 first round games played in the 2019 first round past Pelletier.

Whoever wrote that article is very handsome.

I think there are a few things at play. Lack of picks (as Bingo mentioned), overall health (which could be related to playing through stuff), and — yes — a preference for veterans as a "sure thing."

Nevertheless, promoting fewer prospects than Boston is seldom a great trend.

I agree with most the article. Sutter refuses to insert some youth over a guy like Lewis. Most prospects must be praying they don't get drafted by the Flames while under sutter.

Though Lucic was maybe our best player last night. One of his best games as a Flame

brad should have forced his hand by passing on re-signing a guy like Lewis . yes he has won but I don't know how much he has left to offer on the ice that a younger player with upside can't replicate

The same Boston that’s 10-1? That Boston?

Middle of the pack doesn’t mean desolate. Most teams find a good prospect or two in each draft

I think Coronato, Beck, Kerins, Ciona, and Wolf are all great picks. Zary and Pelletier are good prospects.

Oh yeah, Boston is a great team, but like a true contender they barely make any picks. Furthermore, the picks they have made are typically pretty underwhelming.

A great team, but certainly not a great drafting team of late. But ... they have Jakub Lauko playing regular minutes in the NHL this year.

Trevor Lewis is 3rd on the team in xGF% 5 on 5 and tied for 2nd in five on five goals.

He's the guy people have issue with?

Yikes

The Flames are and have been missing a top nine winger, they're trying different options and may resort to a call up, but clearly aren't there yet.

Hamonic trade cost this team a 2018 1st that was 12th overall, and both the 2018 and 2019 second rounders. Valimaki being thrown on waivers over 26 year old Mackey (who is older than Hanifin, Kylington, Anderson) was not the right call in my opinion especially after watching Mackey play his couple of games.

I liked the moves this team made over the summer but I do hate how old this team got. I don’t like that our youngest players are 25 years old. I wish they would consider giving one of Pelletier or Zary a shot here soon

on the third line , yes . what production does he bring to justify being there? great 4th liner , doesn't belong anywhere else

that 9th forward spot should have been reserved for one of milano, zohorna, or the wranglers kids knocking on the door

a skill player that can help Backlund and Coleman put up offense

I'm guessing it's getting discussed, probably daily.

Pelletier had a rough camp.
Zary missed a lot of time and struggled last year ... they may want to give him more time.

It’s kind of the same old story. Flames really are run like they are a perennial SC contender without the playoff results to back it up. To date.

Maybe this is the year that the trade deadline addition is actually a player from the system.
