Default The never ending goodness of GMAIL

Well here goes,

I am in the ole IT industry, one in which no matter who you work for, you are looked on as more of an expense than and asset. I personally handle Exchange Servers / File/DC Servers, and Desktop Support as well as my own personal TempleMYK File Stor system for file storage with some friends etc.

There are very few times in an IT persons life when a product comes along in which actually causes you do drop all other type-derivatives and use it completely.

Gmail is that product.

-Never Ending space,
-The almost closed party of it not being freely available to sign up (if anyone one wants an invite PM me).
-The use of +
-GoogleTalk

Now, to all the detractors, and I know they exist. The labels can get confusing if you are used to the Hotmail Folder system, and you still need hotmail for Messenger.

But think of it, the new messenger - GoogleTalk - the personalizing of every Email using the + sign etc.

For those of you who dont know what the plus sign is, In a Gmail email address its normally NAME@gmail.com (as is with everyone else). The + sign allows the following:

NAME+EncanaJob005689@gmail.com
NAME+HuskyJob6593895@gmail.com
NAME+EpcorJob56983@gmail.com
NAME+Civ4Registration@gmail.com

All of those will be sent to NAME@gmail.com because...Gmail disregards everything after the plus sign. However, Gmail allowes you to setup distro rules to auto-sort this by attaching specific labels and then archiving them, thus eliminating clutter. Also it solves the "I need an extra email address for registrations" simply use - NAME+garbageregistration@gmail.com and then set within Gmail garbageresigration to automatically be directed as spam or delete it. As to personalize it, for Calgary puck you could have say NAME+CPHLTeamCalgary@gmail.com - :baby:

Also, potential employers who actually read your resume' (most likely the hr person who cant even create a personal folder) will think, wow the guy created an email address specifically for this job - he must really want it

Anyways - if you arent currently using it - use it, if you hate gmail - change your mind, you are using it - use it more. I have cancelled my 2 Shaw and extra 3 hotmail addresses because they are now useless, I have 3 gmail addresses, (personal XboxLive Handle, Personal Company Name, Actual Name)

Also, I dont have any affiliation with Google apart form the fact that I use GoogleTalk, Gmail, DesktopSearch, and GoogleMaps.

Lata

Gmail is simply awesome. It is better than Hotmail in EVERY way. I love that it's a Javascript file so you don't have to wait for the page to load every time you click on something. You can store files on gmail, has name recognition of addresses and is really simple.

If you have a hotmail account you can download a program called "Getmail" that will automatically migrate your hotmail messages to your gmail account. It doesn't forward them it migrates so you get the actual mail. THen you just mail the people back from your gmail account and eventually your hotmail account goes kaput.

I didn't know about the + feature; that is pretty sweet.

I may get to dump my "dontfrickenbotherme" Hotmail account.

People selling addresses will no doubt figure out to drop off everything past the plus sign soon enough so you'll still get crap to joeuser@gmail.com and it will show up in your inbox

I never thought about it, I guess I am always a bit worried abotu MS Passport after there were rumors last year about the US is going to start using that as the platform to replace ID cards using online biometrics.

I might have to give that a try.
