Icon27 Dallas Stars accused of monopolizing, bullying area minor hockey

Owning or controlling 10 of 13 ice rinks in the community, raising fees and intimidating parents and recreational players.

When did Dallas become full of such snowflakes. This is just capitalism, that's all.

Bullying, reprisals and profiteering while benefiting from tax dollars. Kicking teams out of leagues and restricting ice time as retribution. Requiring stays at certain hotels during tournaments while running a for-profit company that receives cuts from said hotel bookings. It’s quite a story.

Parents need more realistic expectations for their progeny. Very few kids are going to be the next Blake Coleman.

Just one more example of “The American way”. Pure greed. Extremist capitalist #######s. The nation that birthed Trump and now we’re all paying.

Pointing out that this is the way across all sports that operate tournaments as a professional model. It’s not unique to hockey or Dallas. It certainly happens in Canada too for “prestige” or “scouting” tournaments.

It cannot be condoned at all, but it’s certainly happening here as well.

My kid did cheerleading for a few years when she was young and there is a big international tournament in Niagara every year which is a huge ####show and an awful racket. We never had to go because of COVID and my kid had quit by the time that these major events started up again. Niagara is brutally expensive at any given time on it's own but for this tournament the organization does all the hotel bookings and they skim a good amount of the top. If your team gets an invite you can only attend if you stay in the block of rooms that you are assigned. Teams can't make their own accommodation plans and if a gym gets on the bad side of the organizers it hurts them badly for getting invites to all sort of local and regional competitions.

Doesn’t sound unlike high level hockey here. Just one group instead of all of them.
