It’s unfortunate that the hole in the third line hasn’t been plugged. Hopefully a few players in the AHL have a great start so are given a shot in a call up situation.

Looks like a Thursday night roster to me, with Mackey/Meloche/Ruzicka waving to the crowd from the bench in suits on opening night introductions.

That would be nice. And hey at least it's not a hole in the top 6

Slotting Mangi on his off-wing on the Kadri line which I dig in case they do swap Toff and him through out the year. Stone still in the 3rd pair spot makes me think a contract announcement is incoming which is fine! Is it Thursday yet?!?!?

It just illustrates that no one jumped up and took that role. Personally, I still think Rooney is a better option, but the difference is marginal, and Rooney's speed at C helps the 4th line.

There is one missing piece on the roster, that is blatantly obvious to everyone. Treliving has said he is still looking, but in the meantime, let's not blame Lewis for that fact. He will do his job to the best of his abilities until someone else steps in.

I am more worried of the 1st and 2nd lines than the bottom lines

I’m more worried about the goaltending to be honest. I think the lines and defensive pairings will sort themselves out.

Markstrom’s head has to be right though. Or nothing else matters.

More like a hole in the top 6 rather than the third line.

Not true. Vladar is more than capable behind this defense. Darryl simply can’t be stubborn and risk losing games to let Markstrom get his game back together. If he has a tough first game, the worst thing Darryl could do was start him against the Oilers as getting lit up by McDavid and Co is not the way to get your starter’s confidence back.

Gaudreau was the straw that stirred the drink. A lot fewer goals this year I suspect. We are really going to miss the highlight reel goals of the last few years and I’m not knocking the new guys. It is what it is

It kind of is though. Because ideally, Dube would be on line 3 and Toffoli on line 2.

You're under estimating Huberdeau. And I don't think the Flames are going to miss Gaudreau at all. Not in the slightest.

Only real production dip should be looked at Kadri vs Tkachuk. But end of the day the overall 200ft game of Kadri is going to prevent a lot more goals than we need to score.

So we may see a dip in GF but we are going to see a much larger dip in GA.

It's going to tip in the Flames favor.

I'd wager the Flames GA vs GF percentage will be about equal at the end of the year.

I'm not sure where I stand on this. Markstrom is a proud guy and his play, I believe, is best when he is secure in the confidence his coach has in him. Giving Vladar the start vs Edmonton over him may have long term negative implications. Not to mention with Edmonton being competitive finally, chances of a Flames v Edmonton playoff series are high, so unless Sutter is willing to put his second best goalie in as the starter for all of those games, it's a plan that probably will create more questions and uncertainty. Based on Sutter's comments during the playoffs around Vladar v Markstrom it seems he's going to put his number 1 over Vladar every time, and I trust his knowledge a lot more than the questions I might have.

You miss Huberdeau spinning through the defensive zone to create a 3 on 2 goal by Toffoli?

Lewis and Ritchie as extra forwards is the best role for the, Lewis on the 4th is fine, but when they are both in the lineup at the same time it's not a good look.

The entire team including Sutter have raved about Vladar and his summer and how he has performed in camp. I fully expect Vladar to get a lot more starts this season, and it can start as soon as Saturday vs Edmonton.
