Oilers @ Flames. 7pm MT. calgaryflames.com
Flames will be going with a very close to opening day roster.
Don't plan on seeing Tanev or Kadri playing. Group 1 has 8 d-men and 13 forwards listed.
Only way to watch is the stream provided by the Flames or Oilers which will most likely have regional restrictions.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Markstrom starting today apparently, maybe he can battle some of those spring demons.

I would like to see Zary, Dube, Phillips, Pelletier, and Milano promoted to the main group, and Sutter, Bishop, Mclain moved to the second group.
Give those guys time with our top players.

Who the heck is this Mitch McLain guy? Did we sign him? Where did he come from?

I guess Dube is resting because he played yesterday but if I'm him I'm a little concerned that he was the guy sent to lose in Seattle and as a result held out from the game here. There were other vets lower in the pecking order that could have gone.

I’m hoping that we do see Mangiapane-Kadri-Milano/Phillips in a pre-season game or two to see how they perform against other teams.
Any news on Kylington yet? I hope everything is okay

I had to look him up yesterday too, had no idea
Apparently just on a two year AHL deal, signed in July

Flames signed him to an AHL deal. That’s why he probably doesn’t show up on cap friendly etc.

Steinburg was talking yesterday like it could be a while before Kylington is back. There won't be any news in the meantime.

No doubt the Oilers will be going full out tonight as they push hard for the pre-season championship.

What do you think he would be worried about? He's not in any danger of not making the roster, and I don't think the in-team pecking order has a lot to do with how the players line up. Players like Lewis and Lucic are definitely ahead of him in terms of NHL seignority, but won't be ahead of him in the line up.

The Kylington absence is a little concerning. I am not sure why Treliving was being so cryptic and then clarify that he is not in the substance abuse assistance program and ban any further questions.
Tre could be a little bit more open or even lie about the reason, for example saying Kylington has a family situation, etc. rather than have the media and fans guessing what it is and assuming much worse things...

He DID say exactly that. Kylington is dealing with a family/personal issue that is serious enough to keep him at home, the team will not be entertaining any future discussion about it, and request that the media respectfully leave him alone. That's it.
My concern is about how long this is going to take, and how much it could affect Kylington's season. I really want him to do well, but this does not help.

Hopefully Kylington isn't gone too long but this opens the door for Valimaki or Mackey. If 1 of them gets that spot and plays well this could work out great for the Flames assuming Kylington doesn't have long term issues.

Don't agree with this take.
I think it's simply that he is a young guy. They aren't shipping vets like Lucic to Seattle, they send the kids.
Dube is in the top 9 to start the season, unless he finds a way to convince them otherwise

Plus Sutter singled him out as having a great finish to last season and playoffs.

I dunno - he's always been in and out of the doghouse, and they could have sent Rooney and/or Ritchie (though maybe Ritchie's hurt). I also worry about the HC stuff being a factor.
You are right that he's a lock for the lineup. But he's fighting for top 6 and at the same time being lumped in with the rookies.
