icon54 Two big question marks going into camp.

Who plays second line RW and is their enough depth at forward to contend this year. If Coleman plays with Backlund and Dube, who plays second line RW.Coleman gives us a good third line where he is probably more suited to play but that leaves a pretty big hole on the second line RW.The fourth line right now, if it is Lucic, lewis and Rooneyis just not good enough. There is a lack of depth at forward and proven top 9 player at least needs to be added. This team is in win now mode and you can't take a chance on or give a roster spot to a rookie. As I see it the forward group still needs two forwards. ideally a proven second line RW but at least a top 9 player and another proven fourth line RW to push lewis to the 13th forward position.Treliving still has some work to do.

If the Flames can add another quality RW'er, amazing! But as it stands right now, I still think the Flames have an incredible top 9 that can contend with the best of them.

Having Backlund-Coleman on the 3rd line would be an insane luxury and be a line that dummies opposition on a nightly basis. Especially if someone like Pelletier can break into that spot and find instant chemistry with those two.

I am concerned about the 4th line, but if they can just limit chances against defensively and be a net zero, I don't care if they don't create chances

Mangiapane and Dube have had chemistry everytime they have played together. If it comes down to those two being centred by Kadri, it's not the end of the world. Last year, Mangiapane broke through and Dube was better both when given more responsibility, and in the second half.

If Dube can stick there, it opens the door for a Pelletier-Backlund-Coleman third line, that has the potential to be a wrecking ball against lesser competition. Ruzicka does well at camp and creates a fourth line of Lucic-Ruzicka-Rooney, with Lewis subbing in for Rooney and Lucic as needed, I'm not even that worried about that line.

Yes, that's a lot of pressure on Dube, but barring a Kakko or someone coming in as a replacement, I could see it working. Effort is not a problem with Dube.

I don't doubt that Tre still has things brewing for another top-9 player. The media seems to think so as well.

Obviously adding another RW would be terrific. But if we go into the season with the following:

Huberdeau - Lindholm - Toffoli
Mangiapane - Kadri - Dube
Pelletier - Backlund - Coleman

that is still a very solid and deep top 9, especially considering the defense and goaltending are both easily top 10 in the league.

This team is all in now and they can't be relying on or giving away spots to rookies. SUTTER likes to be able to roll 4 lines and to be successful you need to be able to roll four lines. As presently constructed I just don't feel the fourth line is good enough to roll out consistently. Plus the vacancy in the top 9 or top six.

I hope a rookie can prove us wrong but its a gamble and this team has to much invested.

Question marks, sure, but huge?

Few teams have there top 19 (12-6-1) already mapped out.

Right now I go with the following top 9

Huberdeau-Lindholm-Toffoli
Mangiapane-Kadri-Coleman
Pelletier-Backlund-Dube

I think the team is on the hunt for a RW to play on the second or third line. Pelletier and Philips will have a good chance to make the team otherwise.

The team day one of season isn't locked in as the team all season. Flames don't need to be in a rush
