Pelletier
If he can make the step it it will make our top 9 way stronger and give Sutter way more options.

For me it's Dube. Both because I think he can be a strong secondary contributor in the NHL, and also because I think his situation with the Hockey Canada issue may not be good news.

Markstrom. Can he be better than last year. Specifically against Edmonton.

Definitely Pelletier, he has a guaranteed trial with a very good center so I am interested in how he performs

I'm interested to see if Ruzicka steps up as a full-time NHLer, and if we get last year's Kadri or he regresses towards his average.
Also, I want to see what we've got in this Considerations guy from the Monahan trade. He and his brother both got traded in the same summer, that's got to light a fire under anyone.

The top tier prospects. I see a lot are saying Pelletier but I'm really curious about Zary. He had such a strong camp before he broke his ankle. A healthy camp and I bet he pops right back to the top of the prospect ranking.

It's definitely between Dube and Pelletier to give us another level.

Actually. Mackey too. Markys wording on the kind of players coming up from the farm to play D led me to think Mackey might be stealing a spot at camp.

Juuso Valimaki.
People seem to be writing him off to a degree that makes me slap forehead - as if we didn't just see Kylington "arrive" after everyone wrote him off last year.

Dube is also a good choice. I really like his speed. the team needs to get faster. If Dube can find some consistency, I can see him having a good year. He has all the tools to be at least a 20-20- guy. If he can be that it would be a good asset for the team.

Valimaki for sure. He has all the tools before he forgot seemingly how to use them .
That to me is 100% confidence . He needs to somehow get beyond his injuries sustained which caused him to take a few steps backwards .
If he does that I think we have another really good D man.
Others are definitely Dube, Mangiapane. Dube is going to get passed by someone if he can't put it all together consistently as does EB but I think cautious optimism is key.
It makes me glad we were patient with Kylington because he sure made a case for himself getting into the lineup ahead of some other players .

There are so many...
Huberdeau: I think he is money to score 90 pts, but does he have another +100 pts season in him?
Lindholm: Does he take another step with such a different looking line?
Kadri: How does the shift in players up and down the lineup affect Kadri's production? How does his insertion affect the performance of the forward group as a whole?
Dube: Is he a top-six forward?
Backlund: What will it mean for him to be playing down the lineup for the first time in nearly a decade?
Weegar: How good is this guy?

Based off what Sutter said in his recent interview I think he expects Mangiapane, Hanifin, Kylington, Andersson, and Dube to take another big step forward this year

Pelletier. Being NHL-ready could fill an important role on the team.
Maybe this should be a poll?

Our 6 defencemen are in a unique situation. They all have the opportunity to step up and take a bigger role. Does anyone have it in them to become an elite number 1/ number 2? Will Weegar take Anderssons role on the PP? Could Kylington or Hanifin take that spot? Could Zadorov move up the line up and cement himself as a top 3?
Is Mangiapane a top line perfomer and trigger man? Does Tofolli find his top level game again?

All the new additions are really intriguing. Weegar is the one I'm the most curious/hyped about, the optimist in me thinks he can be in the Norris conversation if things go well. I want to see how having Weegar on the team helps us shut down elite forwards, or keep the puck away from them.
Aside from the new additions I'm the most intrigued about Ruzicka and Dube. Both players have shown they have a lot more to give offensively.

Honestly, I really want Ruzicka to make a case for himself. I'm not an expert obviously, but I can't figure out what Sutter didn't seem to like about him. It seemed to me that every time he was on the ice, he was effective and made the best of it.
I wonder if it was just a case of not letting him get in over his head by limiting the number of games and ice time. It seems like something a coach would want to do with a young player.
In general, Kadri is the player I am most excited to see. I can't remember the last time I was so excited to see a new player come to the team. Cammalleri and Hamrlik are probably close.

“I think he’s improved in his own zone,” Sutter said after morning skate of Ruzicka, a power-forward project who is currently skating between a pair of past Stanley Cup champions in Milan Lucic and Trevor Lewis. “I want him to be a better player with the puck. I want him to demand the puck more. I want him to be more of a third-effort player. I want him to use his size more. I want him to use his speed more.
|
I think Sutter does like him, just needs to be more consistent. Sutter probably said the same things about Dube when he started coaching here again.
I really like his attitude, it's about wins/losses and not points for him. I wonder if he can play wing. It'd be great if he played well enough that they have no choice but to put him in the top 9, either with him on the wing or he pushes one of our other centremen to the wing. That would give us an even deeper team. One of Stamkos, Cirelli, or Point is always playing on the wing in Tampa's top 6, it probably isn't a huge adjustment.

Ruzicka for me. He plays with a lot of poise.. we're kinda stacked in the middle but I think he takes the 4th line spot and has an impact
