Stars re-sign RFA Oettinger (3 years/12 M, 4 M AAV)
https://www.tsn.ca/dallas-stars-jake...ract-1.1843525
"The Dallas Stars re-signed goaltender to a three-year, $12 million contract on Thursday. The 23-year-old, who was a restricted free agent this summer, appeared in 48 games for the Stars last season, posting a 30-15-1 record and a 2.53 goals against average."
Great signing for them. Oettinger looks to be a solid goaltender.

Goalies are voodoo, so who knows but I would say this is a fantastic deal given how much he dominated us in a series lol. Far better than other goalie contracts signed this year.

He's proved as much or more than J Campbell, yet got less term and yes money while being younger. It's a great deal for the stars.

So a couple days after the owner goes full bat#### on Twitter about salaries, they get their prize RFA signed.
Coincidence?
On topic: goalies are witches but that is a great price for him. Bit of a throw-back RFA non-ELC contract.

Good deal for the Stars and for Oettinger. Small track record so far and now he has 3 years to show them and the league if he can keep it up.
For the stars, it is a good cap hit for someone who should be a solid starter.

Koskinen’s cap hit was 4.25M…

Not to mention that if it isn't working out, it's not crippling in AAV, nor length, and if they really need out of it, his outstanding playoff series will still be recent enough to convince a team with goalie problems to try their luck.
While I do think he will be an excellent goalie, I don't blame Dallas for being cautious. There's no shortage of examples to point to of teams that regret backing up the Brinks truck to small sample size goalies.

Longer would have cost a huge amount more, they couldn't afford a larger AAV.
No different than what Calagry did with Tkachuk.

He might turn out to be worth $12M if he consistently plays like he has.

Honestly, I think it is a fair deal considering what he has done so far. We are just so used to seeing crazy contracts, that it was expected that he would get one too.

It’s a good bridge deal. What he did against us in the playoffs was nothing short of phenomenal, but you don’t want to overpay over one playoff series. I do think he’s gonna be a top goalie in the league

He's an average/sightly above average goalie who had arguably the single best playoff series of the last 20+ years.

If he's even half the goalie he was in the Playoffs, the contract is a steal. As it stands, this contract is more than fair, if not still a slight steal for the Stars.
Young goalie with great potential, but nowhere close to being in the top 5 conversation just because of a single Playoff series. At least not yet.
