Should Flames sign Thornton to tryout?
Of all the players currently without deals, Thornton might be the most intriguing for a new-look Flames team.
Thornton may not be able to help on the ice the way he used to, but his camp presence alone could offer plenty.

No thank you. The last old HOF’er we signed didn’t exactly work out very well

Pass.
I don't think the team is lacking veteran "presence" at this point.

Very unlikely the Flames sign him. Maybe as a 13/14th forward? Basically the forward version of Michael Stone where he barely plays, and probably doesn't even play before some AHL call-ups.
I wonder if Huberdeau and Weegar would recommend Thornton.

No more boomers please.
Obviously he’s not a boomer, but I don’t think we need another 40+ on this team. We had one of the best players in the league at 45 and he didn’t look that good. And that was 5 years ago, the leagues only gotten faster since then.

PTO? Why not. 13th forward? Why not.
I think Thorton has a lot of experience to share. I loved having Jagr here, but just like Jagr I doubt Thorton would dress from more than a handful of games. Basically I'm for signing the press-box/assistant-coach Thorton, but against signing the player he was last year.

Yes, but has to be swapping in and out on the 4th line not the top 3.

Cool jersey to get if he does find a way to get a contract with Calgary. Not a big risk PTO signing IMO, if we do offer him a PTO

I'd rather take a chance with Staal... and I don't really want Staal either.

They are lacking that "someone" to try to win the cup for. Not sure if that's a tangible thing, but it always makes for a good story a la Cogliano last year.
