Default Poirier. Could he be a forward?

No different than the header. Is this someone who could be a forward? I have him high on my prospects list because of the sheer skill. Peoples reporting from camp talked about his puckhandling through players, yes albeit in a development camp.

So is this a guy that maybe better suited at forward? With the skills that he has learned a s a defencemen to this point should make him capable of not fantastic in his own end?

Discuss.

no. People always say this about offensive defensemen who need to work on their defense, but it rarely ever happens. How many players have there been in the last 20 years who converted from F to D or vice versa? Byfuglien, Burns, and ...? It's always suggested online, but never happens.

You see this pop up every time the Flames draft an offensive defenseman. Lots of posters said the same thing about Kylington.

Creating offense from the backend is an entirely different skill set than creating offense as a forward

Burns of course. Pysyk. K’Andre Miller.

I don’t know anything about Pysyk, but Miller switched to defense when he was still playing high school. Very different situation than a professional player

In a word, no. In more words, the Flames would have to teach hm how to play the game all over again, starting in the pros. Rarely leads to success.

Well, still playing elite hockey at that age though. He switched and went right unto NTDP/USHL. So junior equivalent.

I agree with the whole premise that it’s rare. And if it wasn’t done with Kylington, why Poirier?

Do you remember when Phil Housley played center for a while? Right around the same time Sergei Federov moved to D for the Wings. Coaches were trying anything to score goals in those days.

Federov moved because of necessity and he was a genius player to boot. Housely’s move was a bust.

Activating dmen into the attack is becoming more important. Why lose that value by trying to move him up front. The better route is to continue to work on his defense. If you can turn him into an adequate defender coupled with an elite offensive dman - you have a real gem.

No need to move him up.
