My current "omit" list from the reserve list

Dansk, Oscar 28
DeSimone, Nick 27
Karnaukhov, Pavel 25
Lerby, Carl-Johan 25
Yelesin, Alexander 26
Rafikov, Rushan 27

Some notes ...

Colton Poolman is a grey area. Getting older, but hasn't been a pro that long. Could see the argument either way.

Happy to keep the 24 year olds intact as they are still in the mix for the most part.

Ruzicka hasn't done enough to graduate him from my view.

And with that the dogs days of summer have officially returned.

Without the new first round pick being the automatic number 1 it will be interesting to see who takes the crown this year

Include Poolman if you want, since the list is still under 35 total. Or, omit purely on an age issue. Gotta draw the line somewhere.

The only reason why I might consider him a prospect still is because defensemen take longer to reach their peak playing level, however Poolman's upside is still just a cup of coffee kinda guy.

If you include Phillips and Tuulola because they're close to the NHL. Duehr is also close based on last year's camp alone. However, I think it's fair to move on from Mattson as it sounds like he isn't even playing hockey at his school any longer.

Wasn't Mattson just at development camp?

I think Tuulola is in the same category as Lerby, Karnaukhov and Yelesin. Been to North America and have returned to Europe and doubt he’ll be back. So if those guys aren’t included I wouldn’t include Tuulola personally.

Pavel Karnaukov is a recent Olympian, and could technically still come over and compete at the NHL level.

I believe Mattson will become a UFA on August 15.

Last year was his senior year at College and although the NCAA allowed players to extend their eligibility by another year due to COVID, he isn't listed on MSU's roster for the upcoming season, so I don't think he'll be returning.

Koumontzis is in a similar situation, but he has already announced he's returning for one more year at ASU.

I’d still call Valimaki a prospect tbh

Agree on including Karnaukhov also

Yeah should we put Valimaki back into the mix? That's another question.

Also, I believe "Emilio Pettersen, Mathias" should be "Pettersen, Mathias Emilio" or just "Pettersen, Emilio" on the alphabetical list. Emilio is a first name, not a surname.

On the AHL website, he's just listed as Emilio Pettersen: https://theahl.com/stats/player/8541

I'd say yes to putting Valimaki back in the mix. Although, due to his waiver status, he'll likely be in the NHL somewhere this season.

Karnaukhov is 25 and has shown no indication of any interest in coming to North America (and, at this point, I doubt the Flames would have any interest in him if he did). Until he does, there's no point in including him.

I would probably write off Rafikov as well. He's 27 and likely a KHL lifer at this point. I am surprised that the Flames still hold his rights.

Simple way to make the list - eligible for rookie of the Year.

No grey area.

If you put Valimaki on the list you should put Mackey on the list as well. I think they should both be on the list anyways.

Yeah, until one of them clearly separates himself, I consider Valimaki and Mackey to be different sides of the same coin. Kind of like Gio and Richie Regehr back in the day.
