Default 2022/23 Outrageous Flames Predictions

So things are grim right now, and short of Scorch returning next season, there isn't much to look forward to. I'd like to see what "Hot takes" we have for the flames, but please try to keep them positive-ish.

I'm gonna guess that this year is the year we break the season opener curse. Despite everything that's happened this off season, we'll do something silly like that.

Flames still finish first in pacific by only allowing 182 goals all season while potting 230.

Lindholm shows the hockey world he was the reason for his lines success by repeating a similar stat line with Mangipane and Toffoli on his wings.

Markstrom wins the Vezina.

Ruzicka scores 20 goals.

Flames get off to a decent start, but hit a skid and sell at the deadline.

Win the lottery.

An arena deal gets done and ground is broken in spring.

Flames come out if the gate stronger than expected but have a rough middle of the season. They make the playoffs as a wildcard and win the first series in 7 games. They then win the 2nd round in 7, the 3rd in 6, and the take home the cup in 6 at home.

Monahan and Mangiapane both increase their contributions over last year, one of the prospects in our system as well as one of the players acquired in the Tkachuk deal fit seamlessly into the new core and the same player acquired in the Tkachuk deal wins the Conn Smythe.

If this comes true someone owes me a Pepsi.

Darryl wins the Jack Adams again.

Uses the offseason losses as motivation ("they're writing us off again, the same way they did last year") and gets the team to adopt a lunch-bucket mentality like 2004.

Phillips makes the team and establishes himself as a fan-favourite

Might be the odd one out but I'm feeling oddly comfortable with the team right now.

Treliving gets a good return on Tkachuk, effectively uses the cap space. Finds a young C prospect that flourishes on the 3rd line and we become a defensively sound 3 line team with a whole lot of cap space moving forward.

Monahan comes back, while not what he was, he's a solid 2nd liner.

Brad gets fired, but in a show of appreciation for his work in the summer of 2022, Oilers and Canucks fans start a gofundme campaign and raise 3 million dollars to buy “Thank you Brad” billboards around Calgary.

After the firing, Sutter takes the team on a run and squeaks into the playoffs where the Flames beat the Oilers in the first round in an entertaining series where Zadorov lays a Scott Stevens style open ice hit on McDavid.

Not quite a prediction, but I found it funny with all the doom and gloom.

Tkachuk gets traded to St. Louis for Kyrou, Tarasenko and an unprotected 1st.

Flames finish first in the Pacific and go on to win the cup. Lucic wins Conn Smythe with all four series winning goals.

St. Louis struggles hard, there's a locker room rift. Blues finish bottom 5 and their 1st wins the draft lottery.

Flames win the cup AND draft Bedard.

Sadly Makar has already signed his $9M x 6 year deal. Last season was year 1 of that deal.

But Summer 2027, just you wait!
Then Summer 2030, Brayden Point makes his triumphant return home!

- Treliving trades Tkachuk to St.Louis but doesn’t get Kyrou, Tarasenko or a first round pick
- Flames finish bottom 3 or 4 in the division
- Monahan is traded for an underwhelming return
- Treliving is extended
