Weekes is the worst. This was reported the past few days by other people including Dreger.
Anyways, happy with Campbell. Need to get a few defenseman.

Campbell and Kane aren't going to bring them to the promise land.

So before the Kane signing, CapFriendly had the Oilers with $15 million in cap space and a 13-man roster. Adding Kane at 5+ and Campbell at 5 leaves them just $5 million to sign eight more players without going straight into LTIR.
As the meme says, dis gon be gud.

22 million in space. Klefbom and Smith are both on ltir for the year and 6.3 M worth.

I was hoping that's the goalie that they end up with. However, I do think he was surprisingly decent in the playoffs (not the reason why Toronto lost I think, anyway). I don't see him as a good goalie, however, and neither did Toronto I guess.

But that is 11.3 to sign 8 players?

Toronto did want to keep him but since he wanted more term than they were willing to offer, they moved on to Murray who is around the same cost but only signed for 2 more seasons.
Toronto couldn't commit to 5 years when they are going to have to re-sign Matthews in 2.
Campbell is an upgrade on Smith no matter how you shake it.

I specifically said without going into LTIR. They have to be cap-compliant at the start of the season before putting players on LTIR. If they need LTIR to be compliant after that point, they accrue zero cap space throughout the season.
Even filling those eight roster spots at league minimum is going to put them right against the limit.

And I'm afraid Murray is a downgrade on Campbell no matter how you shake it. But it seems to be the Leafs' MO to spend every discretionary dollar on forwards and cheap out on D and goalies, so here we are.

Worse save % than Smith and played behind a far better D
All this talk of the Oilers gett better...where exactly? Seems like the team that got swept minus Keith, JP

Lot of faith in a goalie who has never won a playoff round, is considered small for his position, has a history of inconsistent play and who has entered his 30s. Massive gamble to lay your hopes behind this guy for the duration of McDavids contract.
I'm pleased.

Smith was 16-9-2 with a 0.915 save percentage and 2.81 GAA.
Campbell was 31-9-6 with a 0.914 save percentage and 2.64 GAA.
Smith is also 40 and Campbell is 30.
Smith would have had to have gone 15-0-4 to match Campbell’s record in the difference in games. Campbell had a much better record which wasn’t close and a slightly better GAA but yeah the 0.01 difference in save percentage makes Smith better.
Campbell is a better goalie then Smith and the 10 year age difference is a reason why Smith was signing 2.2 M deals.

Record has more to do with the team
Fact is Smith had a better save %
Oilers are hitching their entire McDavid prime window to Cambell who is a 1a or 1b type guy
Unless something changes the Oilers D is worse

Devils advocate to your outline can talk about playoff success, to which Campbell has none. Campbell is a better option then Smith based on his age, the numbers are pretty close but to many different outliers to truly compare one vs the other. However does that mean Campbell is the right option? No, IMO.
