Man thats rough.

Reminds me of an article I read about McDavid being forced to play in Edmonton. The world is a sick place.

That sucks for him and his friend.

Thankfully trudeau’s plan to get the guns from farmers will make this a thing of the past.

That's scary.
The fact that this is happening to anyone in Canada is crazy. Glad they are ok.

Was he targeted because he's Mitch Marner, or were they just targeting a nice car?

I'm sure its just the car. The Mitch Marner part of it makes it worse for the car jackers because the police will want to solve this now that its high profile.

Scary stuff. Is it just me or is violent crime on the rise in Ontario?

The chances of this happening are slim to none. The past couple weeks there have been a few videos posted of carjackings in the GTA. Guessing it’s a particular ring of people. Such a silly thing to do in broad daylight that I wonder what are their motives? Regular stealing cars at night from driveways is now getting really bad and with that they’re apparently shipping it overseas within a few days. This broad daylight car jacking is new. Seems like a bunch of dummies doing it for unknown reasons.

In Toronto?
I've definitely never heard of anyone getting hijacked at gun point here in Vancouver or when I lived in Calgary.

Or the answer might be that an emboldened group of criminals sees no downside to being brazen during the day. Might as well, what's the risk?

You MIGHT get caught, and if you're that unluckly, it doesn't really matter. You'll be back out in a day or two while you await trial, and just pick up another illegally smuggled handgun from the U.S. for about $300-500 and you're good to go again, and again, and again.
And if you get convicted, you'll probably do less than 12-18 months in jail, if that...

I could be wrong but I don’t think it’s that easy, nor does anyone take the law that willynilly to not care about temporarily going to jail. If you get caught in a violent robbery you’re not just put in a holding cell or locked up for a couple years. No doubt it’s a brazen cell but the payoff is probably enormous for them to be doing it in daylight.
