Default Closest hotels to C-train stations?

Hi all,

Stayed at a hotel within walking distance of the Dome last round, but we still ended up walking about 5-6 blocks without the crowd after the game which for a couple ladies isn't our first pick. Looking for something really close to a C-train station. Sandman is sold out and Hyatt is almost $100 more a night than what we were paying. Any suggestions? I'm less familiar with stuff outside the core as well.

Thanks so much

There's a Holiday Inn on MacLeod and 42 Ave, it's like half a block from a station.

Not a super nice place, but not terrible either.

I believe that Holiday Inn has gone under.

Marriott and Palliser are 2 blocks from train, Motel Village, International hotel is 3 blocks away. Some in deep south (Macloed Trail) also close.

Still a hotel, now Amenida Residences. This would be my suggestion too. Or Hilton Garden Inn, about a block east of City Hall (slightly sketchy, but should be lots of foot traffic post-game here.)

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Calgary NW - University Area, an IHG Hotel
2-star hotel
2373 Banff Trail NW, Calgary, AB T2M 4L2•(587) 390-6100

C-train station is literally right beside the hotel. My family stayed here for my sons hockey tourney and we also went to a Flames game and used the C-train to get to and from.

I'd say walk over towards Mcleod then use an Uber to go to a hotel wherever you want (so the Uber doesn't have to deal with the parking lot / traffic right at the dome)

Unfortunately other than the couple you mentioned downtown there aren't great other options very close to the train stations.

There's also a bunch of hotels around the Banff Trail station.

Edit: What the poster two up mentioned.

It's called Motel Village...

They need to update that name as they have some pretty nice hotels in there now.

How do I know which stations have parking? We could also drive to a station and then take the train.

If you are going to stay at the Motel Village area (Banff Tr), leave nothing in your vehicle and park where there’s a lot of visibility.

Hotel Arts is within a few blocks of the Saddledome (walking distance, not on the c-train line though). It's on the way to the beltline area so you'd be walking with the crowd.

Marriott and Palliser you wouldn't bother with the train, though maybe that walk (straight north to Bell centre and then west on 9th) is what the OP was talking about. I've never had any issue on that walk - there's not a crowd exactly but enough people so it's not deserted.

I'm assuming more people (including those at the Red Lot) likely go west from the Dome; heading north after the game has not been bad at all IMO.

I actually remember bumping in Jim Hughson after Game 3 against Vancouver in 2015 doing that same walk (I'm assuming they were going back to the hotel). I was tempted to rip into him for being a Canucks homer but thought better of it /coolstorybro

I am only familiar with the south end of the Red line, but there are hotels within walking distance of a number of the stations from Bridlewood to 39th street if you're willing to leave the core. Even more if you'd be willing to take the train than a short Uber or Taxi ride. We all have different expectations for a hotel, but a few suggestions from closest to the Dome to furthest away:
  • There is a Days Inn near 39th street station (2 stops before the Victoria Park LRT station for the Dome)
  • There is an EconoLodge and a Super 8 within walking distance (3 blocks) of Heritage Station
  • The Carriage House Inn is a short walk from Heritage or Southland Station
  • The Delta South is about 2 blocks away from the Southland Station
  • There is a Super 8 not too far from the Somerset-Bridlewood station

I stayed at the Delta Downtown Calgary for Game 5. It's not near a station but within walking distance for sure. I know it's not near a train station but it's very close and a great hotel.

I'd also recommend just staying in one of the hotels in walking distance of the Dome. It's May now, so weatherwise, the nights are usually great for walking (barring any freak snowstorms or rain lol). Plus, you get to soak in the atmosphere after a Flames win.
