Preview
Dallas at Calgary

No matter how they want to spin it, the pressure is on the Calgary Flames heading into Sunday's Game 7 clash versus the visiting Dallas Stars that will decide their Western Conference first-round series.

The Pacific Division-champion Flames finished 13 points ahead of the Stars, who clinched a wild-card spot with one game remaining in the season. The Flames were among NHL's best offensively and defensively, while the Stars are the only playoff team to have scored fewer goals than they allowed during the season.

And then there's the way the Flames had their chance to clinch the series on the road in Game 6, as Dallas broke a tense tie late in the second period and went on to win 4-2. That forced the trip back to Calgary for Game 7.

A franchise that has reached the second round only twice in its last eight playoff appearances, the Flames will be severely scrutinized if they lose.

Game Preview

A franchise that has reached the second round only twice in its last eight playoff appearances, the Flames will be severely scrutinized if they lose.

"We're ready," Elias Lindholm said. "We knew coming into the series that Dallas is good team ... but we've fought all year to have home ice in a Game 7.

"It's a new day (Saturday) and a game on Sunday. ... We're in a good spot."

What Calgary's defense corps will look like for the tilt remains to be seen. Top-pairing defenseman Chris Tanev left Friday's game in the second period following an awkward fall to the ice after which a Stars player landed on him.

Flames coach Darryl Sutter brings Game 7 savvy to series finale against Stars

Most Calgary Flames players lack Game 7 experience in the NHL playoffs, but their coach doesn't.

Darryl Sutter owns the best all-time record among NHL head coaches at 7-3 in best-of-seven series' that reach a Game 7 finale.

His 11th Game 7 will come Sunday when the Flames and Dallas Stars close out their conference quarter-final at the Saddledome.

The 63-year-old from Viking, Alta., will move to the top of the list ahead of Claude Julien, Mike Keenan and Mike Babcock, who all have 10.

The Flames haven't played a Game 7 in a series since 2008.

If they lose this, I might be done with hockey.

Please win. Please.

I’m feeling pretty good about this one and think the Flames will win it. It’s also game 7 where anything can happen. This is it, our whole season down to one game and I believe we’ll win! Must win!

Go Flames!

Listening to the post game show podcast yesterday, I have to agree with Stienberg. Today’s game is the most important for this organization since ‘04.

I predicted a 3-1 win for the Flames in this one after the last game. I stand by that. Flames will turn the corner and move on to the second round.

I think I need help. I am suffering from so much anxiety for this game and series. I barely sleep. I have a sinking feeling of dread and despair knowing how the story ends for us in almost every year besides 2015 and 2004. Lose and go home, win and this province will burn to the ground over the next two weeks. In Sutter we trust. GFG.

A win tonight means we play the Oilers. Season will only be successful if we beat the Oilers. So if it's a win tonight we need another series win or it's almost worse lol

Just do us proud and banish these demons from Dallas. Markstrom needs to out-goalie the rookie in this one.

A win tonight also ignites a legit rivalry, the likes a forced first round playoff format simply cannot recreate.

Can you imagine, dream first period up 3-0. Into the 3rd up 4-1 with only a few minutes left. Chant starts up: "bring on the Oilers..."

Super nervous...

I want to see the flames come out and have a first period for the ages, get the crowd into it right from the start and carry it over for a big W.

Instead, I'm sure we'll see a 0-0 game going into OT...

However it unfolds, GO FLAMES GO.

Btw, crazy to think this could be the last game watching gaudreau as a flame.
