First impressions of Flames-Stars as shutout gives Calgary the early edge

Tkachuk refused to wait to influence the series. At points of the first period, he assisted Lindholm's snipe, steamrolled John Klingberg behind the Stars' net, and drew a penalty when Michael Raffl incited a retaliatory fight at the buzzer, which led to Klingberg and Rasmus Andersson tussling and getting ejected.

Tkachuk's busy start came at an opportune time. The superstar winger was a top-10 scorer in the league this season. His 42 goals and 104 points shattered his previous career highs. But his playoff output to date has been modest. Entering Tuesday, Tkachuk tallied three goals and five points in 15 postseason appearances, and he was concussed when Dallas ousted Calgary from the 2020 playoff bubble.

If all goes to plan in this round, the Flames will lay the groundwork for a long and fruitful run. Tkachuk and Lindholm - who's up to four career playoff goals now - asserting themselves offensively would help the cause.

Even Dallas’ goalie thinks Flames fans are “awesome” after C of Red experience

“It was awesome,” Stars goalie Jake Oettinger offered shortly after Dallas dropped the 1-0 contest to fall back 1-0 in the seven-game series. “Such a great fanbase here in Calgary. I don’t know if I’ve ever been as fired up as I was in the first period there. It was just such a fun atmosphere to play in.

“It’s only going to get better from here on out.”

Stars need more from their top line going forward after a quiet Game 1

This year’s version of the Stars relies on its top line for offense more than any other iteration in Dallas history. So when the top line struggles to generate offense, there’s little secondary scoring behind them to pick up the slack.

Flames haven't led a series 2–0 since the 2004 West Final.

I love how since no Dallas player has any points the graphic automatically defaults to say Glendening is their leading scorer.

This is a huge game. It would be incredible to be the only Canadian team up 2-0 in their series.

No surprise they have only won a single series since. Would be nice for them to put their foot down and hold home ice advantage into game 3. I expect Dallas will come out hard in this one and hopefully the Flames can stay disciplined and not get caught up in the Stars retribution talk.

I have a good feeling our secondary scoring makes an impact tonight, goals from Dube, Toffoli, and Hanafin incoming!

Don't change a thing. Stick to the exact same game plan and the Flames will walk away with the win.

Just make sure to set the tone early again, and don't get sucked into any stupid Dallas revenge shenanigans.

If Dallas wants to play dirtier than they usually do, I hope the officials penalize them appropriately. As for the really good guys, stay the course, make the Stars irrelevant and win this sucker.

From watching the first games in the playoffs it looks like dicipline is one of the biggest factors. The flames can’t give freebie powerplays to the stars. They will take advantage sooner or later.

Both teams played quite well 5 on 5 last game. I think special teams will be the difference in this series.

Game 2 usually sees the game 1 loser adjust and step up their game. The flames better be ready to do the same. Dallas has to win a game at the dome to win the series. Don’t let that happen. Keep grinding away on their D as well.

Big game tonight. I’m sure the roof of the dome will be coming off.

All the teams seem to be noticing and discussing the officiating. I doubt they are going to play dirty go forward. Trick is finding the line between dirty and physical.
