Icon56 Jets extend Chevy 3 years

Hard to believe it's happened, but the Jets have extended cheveldayoff after one of their most disappointing seasons in Winnipeg.

At this point I can only assume the hockey management and coaching staff have a lot of compromising material on ownership to get away with these kind of mediocre results for over 11 years. Huddy is still our God damn D coach. Unreal.

Enjoy the playoffs and bask in our misery as Jets fans.

Still think he should be out of the league after the Blackhawks debacle...

They did pretty well this season considering 4 of their top 6 scorers missed 15+ games.

They have a relatively young core for the most part, and will have a bit of money to play with in the offseason.

I don't think blowing it up after four straight seasons in the playoffs with a couple of times going past round 1 is the right move after one season where they were only 5 wins off from playoffs and with a better goal differential than one of the teams that made it. Dallas actually has less regulation wins. They went 10-4 in OT and 5-2 in shootouts. That's the difference.

Cole Perfetti looks promising. I could easily see a bounce back next season.

I don't regard him much differently than I do Treliving. With the biggest difference being Treliving's team just finished a great season whereas Jets best season was a few years ago.

So maybe one guy is figuring things out while the other is losing ground to his peers.

Or more likely both kind of average GM's who can keep teams competitive and hopefully strike gold once in a while.

I guess he's no worse than what the other guy would be. Its probably one of the tougher jobs in the league as it's the least desirable place to play. They draft well and that keeps them pretty competitive. Might be time to turn over Wheeler and Scheifele and see if they can bolster the blue line a bit.

No kidding. For all the whining that no one wants to play in Calgary, imagine Winnipeg.

Anyway I think that whole angle is a bit overblown. NFL teams like Green Bay and KC attract talent. There are only so many NHL jobs to go around and you don’t win by attracting UFA’s anyway.

The Jets are the anti-Canadian team. All other Canadian teams maybe make too many moves because they are desperate to win a cup. The Jets make no moves, ever. When was the last time a head coach in any professional sport has to step down because he knew he wasn't getting the job done but also knew he would never get fired? I'm not even sure if winning the Stanley Cup is a goal of the franchise as it seems like they just want to ice a competitive team and if they make the playoffs every second season, that's just fine as long as fans keep buying tickets. This is an organization that could use a fan boycott to inform the ownership group that it's just not good enough. As long as they continue to buy tickets there will never be any urgency from ownership to win.

I dunno, Chevy has made plenty of blockbuster trades over the years IMO. Going all the way back to the big Kane/Myers swap, to the Trouba trade and most recently the Laine/Dubois swap.

in some fairness to him, he likely has his work cut out for him when it comes to attracting free agents as i'd imagine Wpg is in the T5 of least desired locations to live for players in the NHL

and the question when i t comes to firing a guy is - who is out there that is better/smarter

All trades done out of necessity over team building as Kane and Laine were issues in the locker room and Trouba wanted out. I just think after more than a decade of mediocre results under Chevy it wouldn't be the worst thing for a new GM with a fresh set of eyes to come in and start evaluating everything from the roster to the coaching staff. The only strength of their organization seems to be amateur scouting.

11 years is a long time. I suspect he's a fine GM but sometimes a shake up is needed.

Only an Oilers fan would say the Jets had 4 straight years of playoffs…

I feel kinda bad for Dave Lowry. Good guy and good hockey man. Was left to mop up what looks to be a highly dysfunctional room.

Being told he can apply for the job he was just dumped from? Pretty shoddy treatment IMO.

I hope he lands somewhere, even if it's in an associate or assistant role.
