Flames had no legs in this one. Heck of an effort to come away with a point.
I thought Backlund had a good game (after the 1st).
Great to see Mangiapane pot a couple. And Jarnkrok is going to go on a heater just in time for the playoffs.

Yeah and as I said in the game story ... the Flames when stuck in their own zone are much better than in previous seasons. They seem to have the structure to withstand zone pressure when they're not playing well.
That's a huge addition come playoff time.

thanks as always. I try not to quibble the details, but not sure I'm reading you correctly
I think Johnny is now tied with MacMillan at 108
just Mullen left in sights ( no catching Kenta)

If you had to look at the teams from last night it has to look like the Predators win the first round in five games.

That's not the most optimistic way to assess things with one team on back to backs and having played 3 in 4 and 5 in 7 with less to play for and their back up goalie in net while still erasing a two goal lead and getting a point.

Saros is 6-1-0 with a 2.60 GAA and .920 save percentage vs the Flames in his career. The Flames can very well get goalied in a series vs Nashville.

Of course they can. And any playoff team can beat any other playoff team in a single series.
But none the less, I'll take the Flames, and I'm there for size, for anyone that thinks the Preds are going to take it and want to bet.

Any team can get goalied in the playoffs. Remember Wade Flaherty? Or Bryzgalov?

At least the Flames have their own goalie that can goalie someone ... that's a nice change.

It wasn't like the Preds were world beaters. If that is them playing hard and desperate for a playoff spot then I take the Flames in five

I was at the game.
That was a great game that either team could have won.

I don't know what "there for size" means but message me in a week and we can chat about a potential bet.

It's moments like this I miss being a mod, as "there for size" is perfect to place under the user name.

That's certainly possible but the Predators are a little like a poor man's version of this year's Flames in that they have a small handful of solid forwards but none that I would consider elite and if the Flames can't shut them down then they probably deserve to lose as good luck shutting down the Avs if you can't shut down the Predators forward group. I know the SO doesn't matter but I find the Flames shooters didn't really take advantage of his lack of size trying to go five hole and blocker side. I would hope they try to get him out of position more in a playoff series or he's just going to play the angles and make saves. If they can get to Saros I feel they should win the series but the reality is that there are no bad teams that make the playoffs in the NHL and the Flames need to execute their game to the fullest or they could lose to anyone.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Its weird. Dallas on paper might be the better match up. Markstrom's career numbers are better against the Stars too. Yet the eyeball test tells me the Flames always play the Preds well (home and away) yet Dallas gives them fits for whatever reason. Sure, they had the comeback this year which was great but that feels like the exception rather than the rule against them.
I'm conflicted.
