Default Flyers end Yandles ironman streak at 989 games.

Quote:
Keith Yandle will be a healthy scratch for the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday night, ending his NHL-record consecutive-games-played streak at 989 games.

Yandle, 35, broke the "iron man" record earlier this season, passing Doug Jarvis on Jan. 25 by playing in his 965th consecutive regular-season game at the New York Islanders. The defenseman's streak began in his third NHL season, on March 26, 2009.
You wonder why they wouldnt just let him hit 1000 after playing him all year already and they have nothing to play for now.

Meh, media will make a big deal of it. Yeo's job is to evaluate guys for next year not cater to bottom pairing guy who's a UFA.

Torn on this one. On one hand seems stupid to end his streak so close to 1,000 games. On the other hand seems stupid to play a guy on the basis of a streak rather than by merit.

I would have probably let him get to 1,000 but meh.

Do these iron man streaks really mean much if the player isn't scratched simply due to the streak itself?

Yandle has been absolutely awful for a couple years now.

Should have benched him a long time ago. Or at game 966.

His streak has been a constant distraction and hinderance to the team. Multiple stat guys have him as literally the worst defenseman in the NHL.

Streaks mean less if you are self aware and adjusting your play/lineup to accomodate for them.

Uhhhhh bush league by the team? Are you guys joking? Yandles streak is a joke. He mails it in just for the streak, he overstayed his welcome in Florida for the same reason. Finally this bogus streak ends.

I looked up the ironman list, after Kessel the next active player is Brent Burns at 664 games. He is 37 years old so the chance for him to get to Kessel's level will be slim to none.

On a side note, the next active player on the list was Clayton Keller. He had a great streak going at about 360 games, and he was still only 23 years old. He played every single game since his rookie year for the past 5 seasons and if he kept that up for the rest of his career, he probably would have a streak of like 1500 games. Too bad he got injured earlier in the week and his streak is now over.

He's not an NHL caliber defensemen right now and the Flyers need to change whatever this losing culture they have is.

So just play him for the sake of this streak? That has been the dumb move for some time now.

people calling it a bush move by the coach, but the next time someone has a streak going, people will say "yeah, but Yandle should have been benched way earlier, his streak is a joke"

you can't win with most people

Yeo can pretend he's evaluating talent but he and the organization both know it's dead man walking.

The Flyers have nothing left to play for. And keeping the 6D in the lineup would not be at the expense of any kid that they might be evaluating anyway.
