28 games left... 4 rounds of 7. "Series" Tracker
Tonight's game would be game 1 if we break down the last 28 games into four series of seven games each.
Round 1 (4-2-1 record)
vs Edmonton W 3-1
Vs Washington L 4-5
Vs Tampa W 4-1
Vs Detroit W 3-0
@ Colorado L 0-3
Vs New Jersey W 6-3
Vs Buffalo OTL 0-1
Round 2
@ Vancouver W 5-2
Vs San Jose L 3-4
Vs Arizona W 4-2
Vs Edmonton W 9-5
Vs Colorado L 1-2
Vs Los Angeles SOL 2-3
Vs St. Louis
Winning 4 out of every 7 would give the Flames 105 pts plus OT loss points
The first two rounds have 12 home games then Round 3 has 4 road games. Round 4 has 5 road games and might be the toughest.

I feel like Flames are capable of winning 3 out of every 4 games the rest of the year. 115 pts and win the Division. I'd like to see that pace continue right through the playoffs

So far, so good.
Flames win 3 out of 4 and have a difficult game 5 to "close out" the series. Even if they don't win tonight, they are in good shape. I was at all 4 home games this week and the Flames looked like Stanley Cup contenders. Even their worst game, they could have won.

Flames lost a difficult 5th game on the road in Colorado, but played pretty well under the circumstances (backup goalie, 5th game in 7 nights....)
After 2 days off, tonight is an opportunity to get their 4th win in game 6 of this 7 game segment. Flames at home for Game 6 and Game 7.

Flames get 4th win in their 6th game of the 7 game segment. Would be good to get another win tonight in this last game against Buffalo.

Flames get a point in a game against Buffalo where they didn't play great but could have still won.
Then in Round 2 game 1 against Vancouver they dominate in their 2nd game of BTB while giving starting goaltender the night off. Great win on the road.
Next 6 games at home, but the opponents get stronger in the latter half of the homestand. Would be nice to get a few wins early.
Were the Flames to win 4 out of 7 in these last 3 rounds, they would have 106 points plus any OTL bonus points. It looks like that would be enough points to win the division this year.

I would hope for 5-2 in this stretch. The first few games could be hard to focus on, Flames have suffered from this a bit lately. It is curious Flames play AZ on Friday and the grease on Saturday. Seems a needless b2b given Thursday seems like a better fit for both the Flames and AZ. Maybe Friday games are more desired....or maybe it is for some other reason....

Yeah. Nobody wants to spend an extra night in Edmonton.

BTB wins after a disappointing loss against SJ, and Flames are 3-1-0 in first 4 games of this 7 game segment. 4th game was a wild win over Edmonton in a game for the ages. Next 3 games at home but all three opponents are high quality. Should be able to win 1 or 2 of next 3 games, but it won’t be easy.

Tough loss in the 5th game of this segment against Colorado. I will say that I admire how competitive the Flames have been in losses this year. In the last 12 games (7-4-1), every loss was still up for grabs in the 3rd.
Next 2 games at home and the opponents will be playing Oilers the night before.

Don't know why I can't remember this, maybe it was all the modified playoff formats with the covid bubble, but if the playoff started today:
Is it #1 in the conference vs. #8 (second wildcard), #2 vs. #7, #3 vs. #6 etc?
Meaning the flames (#2) would play the oilers (#7)?
Or is there some divisional aspect to it? Sorry, it's been a couple years since the flames were in a normal format playoffs......
And I don't know if the wild card position plays a role- can 5 teams from the central be in with only 3 from the pacific?

It's divisional.
#1 Pacific vs. Wild Card
#2 Pacific vs. #3 Pacific
Winners play in round 2
#1 Central vs. Wild Card
#2 Central vs. #3 Central
Winners play in round 2
The better #1 seed (Colorado) plays WC2, lower #1 seed (us) plays WC1. Yes, both wild cards can be from the same division (happens pretty often).
If the playoffs started today:
Calgary (P1) vs. St. Louis (WC1)
LA (P2) vs. Edmonton (P3)
Colorado (C1) vs. Dallas (WC2)
Minnesota (C2) vs. Nashville (C3)
