Don’t spend it all at once now.
Just put it right into Johnnys signing bonus.

Between this and the Brouwer buyout coming off the books, Treliving will have an extra $2.5 million to work with this summer.
It's not nearly enough to likely be able to keep everyone who needs a raise, but it's better than not having it.

It also sound like three more years of modest increases, then a huge jump in 2025 once the books are balanced...

I wonder if they might renegotiate this to smooth out the big jump, maybe go up 2 or 3 million in 2023 and 4 or 5 in 2024, leading to a smaller big bump in 2025 and 2026?

Now the Oilers can sign their new starting goalie for 2M instead of 1M.

This should be quite helpful for the team as we’ll likely be under tremendous cap pressure next season. The salary cap still does not look good however and we may still end up losing a couple really good players in the end.

The Flames should talk to Lucic about retiring and taking a job within the organization that pays 5.5 million for 1 year........

Using Oiler fan logic paying for Lucic’s salary is once again covered.

Thanks for your post.
It caused me to look at Capfriendly.
Oilers pay Neil $1,916,667/season until the end of 24/25.
This made my day

It will be interesting to see how many players sign deals to expire in 2025. If you look at the general growth of the cap since its introduction, I think it's possible that the cap in 2025-26 could be close to $100 million.
Right now, the cap in 2024-25 is set to be $84.5 million, so that would be a massive year-over-year jump.

Can’t believe that Nurse settled for 9.25 million USD or almost $11.6 million CAD when he could have had this extra million added. Kenny Holland sure robbed Nurse and his agent!

I was just talking to a friend about that. What if Tkachuk and Johnny signed short term team friendly deals so they expire when the cap increases and sign bigger deals then.

Johnny is at the age though where he likely isn't going to want to risk signing another contract in 3 or 4 years as then he will be well into his 30s and won't get a high AAV on the next one as there will be too many older years on it. Now is the time for him to sign a 7 or 8 year deal and remove all of the risk on his end.
