Taking a while to get to 5000

Apparently 3 years at $5M per in case people want to know why the Flames didn't go for it. Among other reasons I'm sure.

The Rangers are paying $8.5 million for a head coach this season when you factor in what Gallant is making.

Did he even apply / show interesting the Calgary job? Serious question, thought I heard somewhere he wasn't interested (not sure if the Flames were or not).

That is correct, but, the Hurricanes were in a different division (Southeast Division) when Laviolette was coaching them.

It was reported he wasn't interested.
Also, the idea that the Flames are cheap on coaching is a moo point. It's a cow's opinion.
They're paying Sutter $4M this year and next year to not coach.

He's honestly a good choice for the Rangers. He's a coach who gets immediate results on a contender, though he doesn't last particularly long. Can't argue with 3 cup finals with 3 different teams and a cup win in those.

Not sure this makes the point you think it does. Sutter has tons of ties to the Flames organization going back years. Every other coach that I can think of in my lifetime has been a bargain bin “who else was hiring this guy?” pick. No surprise, the guys who come here and inevitably flop don’t end up in HC positions thereafter. There’s absolutely a case to be made that ownership’s coaching budget is an organizational failing.

Not sure what point you’re refuting… they didn’t cheap out on coaching. That’s a verifiable fact.

Most I heard is that the Flames reached out but no idea if he interviewed. Best guess is he told them upfront what he was looking for.

What I’m saying is that Sutter is a special case for this organization, for obvious reasons. Other than him, Edwards has indeed cheaped out on coaches.
