Came across the Calgary Heralds introductory spread on the Flames.

Go black on ivory for the colours to avoid making the prints look like they were pulled straight off the internet and more like actual old newspaper stock.

I didn't realize that Eric Duhatschek was writing back then.
What a great find.

IiRC they let Duhatshek suit up for camp to give him an idea how good professionals were. After a day he was convinced.

Duhatschek was covering local sports at the Sun when the Herald lured him away. The Sun chain subsequently sent Steve Simmons out west to cover the Flames beat.

I miss Flames on 2 and 7 I really enjoyed those telecasts, nothing like a home broadcast of your team.

Wow, funny what memories are locked away in the brain.
I totally remembered pouring over those pages, once I opened the link.
Still remember clearly watching Ken Newans report that the Flames were coming to Calgary.
Thanks for sharing.

My favorite part is the comparison of the Flames to the '81 Datsun. Both Top Performers!

Wow that is a fantastic look to back then.
Amazing some of the minds in the organization back then with Poile on staff. Him being with the preds since 1997 is crazy.
Having he and Fletcher back then is just wow.
Having to endure after both were gone during the dark years and young gun Era makes me wonder how on earth I've remained a loyal fan after all these years.....I guess it's just some weird civil pride.
Speaking of which it's amazing to me how even though Sutter was gone for awhile he still followed the goings on here.
Man I'm glad to see this team become competitive again and re acquaint itself as a place that continues to be a place of pride and home for many of our awesome alumni who still care allot about our incredible community, city, province and country.

I can't believe that David Poile was the Assistant for the Atlanta Flames going way back to the 1970s. And the first Assistant GM of the Calgary Flames.

I wouldn't do that based in this low rez copy, but I bet you could find the same graphic in the Calgary Archive's collection in higher resolution.
