Default Flames 5 Wild 1

Flames 5 Wild 1

- Flames dominate special teams
- Markstrom stands tall when Minnesota pressured
- Toffoli with another goal and assist
- Flames sweep Wild with 12-4 goal margin

Sorry it's late gang, had a kid's hockey game that finished at 11. Only 10 days left in my minor hockey coaching career so that excuse goes away soon!

There's a lot to say about the way the Flames the past few weeks.

2 things that I noticed last night and will be interesting to watch going forward.

Johnny is not dictating that way he was a few weeks ago. Personal mini slump? Or games are getting tighter and he's having to find his way. Under Sutter and his newfound 200ft game, I'm not worried about him. Will just be interesting to watch.

Monahan was a different player last night. He was assertive and driving play on that line. If he's healthy and confident, a newly renovated Monahan could be the best trade deadline acquisition for the Flames going into the playoffs.

Finished up with the older kid that way!

Tough sledding on kid #2, down to our final loss.

His skating in particular is noticeably improving. I think it was Bingo that mentioned with his surgery he needed to learn a new stride and it might take a year. I think he's starting to come around.

Even his "meaness" is starting to show!

Now if he can work on his shooting!

Cause in a game he can go from Mean Sonahan to Sean Muffinahan.

Offense goes hot and cold - I just think his red hot play has cooled off a touch, nothing to be concerned about.

In baseball they say defense never slumps. Maybe not quite as true in hockey, because there is a luck aspect to goals against, but it is still mostly true. Defense is about effort, which is why it doesn't slump. Offense runs hot and cold to a much greater extent.

I swear he took out two guys with one check at the blue line last game. Kind of by accident, but so what.

Flames are clearly upping their snarl.

Monahan more physical, Mangiapane has gone super pest ... Backlund constantly finishing checks.
