Default Dom Hasek calls for contract suspension for every Russian NHL'er

Also calls Ovechkin a chicken ##### and a liar.

Quote:
The NHL must immediately suspend contracts for all Russian players! Every athlete represents not only himself and his club, but also his country and its values and actions. That is a fact. If the NHL does not do so, it has indirect co-responsibility for the dead in Ukraine.
Quote:
“What!? Not only an ablist, a chicken s–t, but also a liar!” Hasek tweeted. “Every adult in Europe knows well, that Putin is a mad killer and that Russia is waging an offensive war against a free country and its people.”
Im only guessing as i am no lawyer but i cannot see where it would be legal to suspend a contract based on someones nationality and i certainly disagree that the NHL would havethe blood of Ukrainians on their hands because of a madman in the Kremlin.

come on. Those players have done absolutely nothing to warrant that.

in reality, this is what Putin has done to his own people though: his country will universally be hated, and innocent Russians will have to suffer consequences for his idiotic actions.

Your right the players have done nothing. But it is pretty weird to issue Green cards to ppl from a country currently at war with your allies.

You can’t say that some of them hasn’t done nothing. Go see Ovis instagram page and google what he posted when russia invaded Krim. That ” he is our president” is similar than heil hitler.

Just to provide a counter to the "suspend Russian player contracts" narrative.

Would like to share a Flames game experience we will always remember last night.

Both sons at Flames/Wild game with me. We have seats on the glass.

One of my son's was wearing a Ukrainian hat in support, we are of Ukrainian ancestry.

While skating around the Flames bench, Zadorov saw my son's hat during one of the breaks in the period and came over and tapped the glass and then said loudly "nice hat".

My son was so surprised. He then went on social media and found evidence of Zadorov supporting Panarin's anti-Putin view from some time ago.

Zadorov will always be welcome on the Flames in our view.

obviously, but on the other hand there's also guys like Panarin. 55 Russians have played in the NHL this season, it doesn't make sense to me to throw them out.

#### Hasek! He is just frustrated by his inability to change the situation. Perhaps we should round all the Russian people into work camps and make them wear a badge next?(obviously I'm exaggerating, but targeting all of a group of people for their ethnicity sure seems that way to me)

Also, what happened to freedom of speech, there's also an inherent freedom to keep your thoughts to yourself, because arguing over them over and over is useless.

Exactly, and as far as Hasek is himself, he played and represented Czechoslovakia numerous times, played in the KHL (I guess their money spends) and in doing so represented countries that were run by dictators. So I guess by his standards he should return his HOF award and be returned to the Czech Republic and not allowed into the country.

While Hasek is clearly in the wrong here, it's an example of just how fast pure Russofobia is rising in Russia's western neighbours.

If the war drags on, Russian civilians living out of the country will start to be in real danger.

War is a horrible thing.

US & Canada should revoke working & study visa’s for the high profile Russians such as athletes, politically connected and oligarch wealthy.

Send the elites back and freeze their US assets.

Ridiculous and also ridiculous that any Russian player is expected to make any kind of statement. Did American players have an obligation to take a stand during the Iraq invasion?

Given Hasek's age he would have been impacted by the 1968 invasion, and an event like this invasion likely triggers some harsh animosity towards Russians.

What he is suggesting can not realistically happen. There are those from Russia who clearly do not support the actions of their home country. But the primal urge to be frustrated and think that more can be done to put internal pressure on Russia to back off is hard for me to fault on someone who lived thru Soviet influence in his youth.

Not necessarily.

I'd say he's always been held in check by Putin and what Putin could do.

My brother in law went on a hunting/fishing trip with Barry Trotz a few years ago. Lots of great stories ... But one of them was about the hold that Putin has on Ovechkin and how sad it makes the Caps player. When the Caps got knocked out by the Rangers Ovechkin was with his teammates and they were planning a get together to end the season. Then a call comes in and it's Putin asking for Ovechkin. When he comes back into the room he says good bye and is whisked to JFK to get on a private plane and go to the World Championships.

He was devastated.

I think it’s been pretty clear that they are buddies. I think that story demonstrates it, not that Putin was threatening him. It’s been years of it. Putin gives him present, Ovie has Putin’s phone number, started a supporters group for him in the NHL, etc. Panarin took the opposite stance, BTW.

What I do think is that right now people shouldn’t be asking Ovechkin for statements.
