Default Flames 2 Kraken 1

Game Takes: Flames 2 Kraken 1

- Lindholm extends goal streak to seven with the game winner
- Markstrom solid in net again
- Giordano and Tkachuk hook up for some late game fireworks

I only saw 2 periods so not sure how 3rd went. I thought the team "played down" a bit to the Krakens level for the first time in awhile. They still won and no team steam rolls everyone.

Maybe they got the first goal against a weaker opponent and just thought it would be rinse repeat but I did think they played at the Krakens level and they haven't been doing that this year.

Any video of Hrudey’s comments re Gio post game? Wondering if that was Gio just playing hard to the buzzer or sending a message: I don’t want to come back. Tkachuk looked genuinely surprised at the end of the scrum - said ‘what was that?’ right to him as it broke up.

I thought the game featured several sustained periods of back and forth without a whistle.

I was a little surprised that bio decided to make the hard play with 5 or so seconds left.

Im not sure because he ended up with a bit more TOI than Lewis and Rosy but admittedly i dont recall seeing him either.

Looks like Sutter shortened the bench protecting a 1 goal lead.

Part of it was a lack of finish too.

The Flames had a 16-2 edge in high danger chances five on five. Three of those go in and the game isn't all that close at the end.

Specifically Mangiapane and Coleman had four each, Tkachuk three.

Just looking at the time on ice, it doesn't look like it. He had 6 shifts in the 3rd. About the same ice time as mangiapane

Exactly. And 3 of those were wide open nets that the guys just couldn't hit!

Great write-up as always. Enjoyed your story about Backlund.

I actually thought it was Bieksa, and Hrudey was tempering his speculations. I still have the game on the PVR, so will go back and look at some point today.

Hrudey said something like "the Backlund hit was just hockey, but the one on Tkachuk was done to do damage"

Tell his team mates that.

When he scored at home i believe they played "Whole lotta Rosie" by ACDC.

Whole Lotta Rosie is good enough that it might make up for a bad nickname... damn.

yeah a few things seemed to be going on in the 3rd, first with Coleman out for a little over 5 , Toffoli seemed to be shifting with the Backlund line and its possible that Toffoli's regular line saw a bit less ice through that stretch

then at the end of the game it felt like every time I looked up the 11 or 28 groups were out there
