Help for EA NHL06 on PC

Hey everyone, got a new computer today and got nhl06 for it. I have a mad catz controller but it won't work properly. does anyone have advice?

At the risk of sounding obvious. Is the monitor turned on? Have you turned on the computer? Is the monitor hooked up to the computer? Are they plugged into a power outlet? Did you install the game?
