Coyotes on the Verge of Being Locked Out

https://theathletic.com/news/coyotes.../ArAVPFTj0LId/

Quote:
On Dec. 3, the Arizona Department of Revenue filed a tax lien notice in Maricopa County against IceArizona Hockey LLC, the company that owns the Coyotes, for more than $1.3 million in unpaid state and city taxes. The City of Glendale, which has been locked in a lengthy dispute with the Coyotes over delinquent bills, has already notified ASM, the Gila River Arena management company, and Coyotes team president and CEO Xavier Gutierrez of the cancellation of the Coyotes’ business license.

The City of Glendale is owed approximately $250,000 in unpaid city taxes, according to a letter from City Manager Kevin Phelps to Gutierrez, and the remaining amount is owed to the state. The state tax lien notice, obtained via a public records request, asserts that the Coyotes owe taxes dating back to June 2020.

The Coyotes, according to the notice sent to ASM and to the team, will have until 5 p.m. MST on Dec. 20 to pay the outstanding arena invoices from the 2020-21 season, as well as the outstanding tax bill. If they do not settle up the remaining debt by that time, the City of Glendale has instructed ASM to deny team employees access to the arena and the offices within the arena used as administrative space. Arena vendors would also be locked out.
Move the damn team. Sorry Jordon.

Let them play out of Quebec for this season, determine where they go from there after. There's an arena right there and the locals will watch the games.

Yea I’m so sick of this crap.

I can understand sticking it out in markets like Florida, Carolina and Long Island but the bulk of Arizona fans are Canadian snowbirds.

I get there is still interest in the team from regular locals but not enough to merit a team IMO. It’s all TV network deal BS fuelling the logic to keep them their because it’s more desirable for Americans to tune into an Arizona game than a Quebec game.

Move them to Houston then ffs.

Or if you keep it in Arizona, put it in an area where the fans don’t have to drive an hour each way to get to it.

Bottom line is there are better markets out there. Sorry ARZ faithful it’s been a disaster basically from the beginning, it’s time to accept reality.

I get that the Coyotes don't want to play in Glendale, but they're not really looking very serious about staying in Arizona if they don't want to pay the bills.

This is why the Coyotes will be in Arizona for a very long time.

Here’s a better explanation. It all about gambling revenue.

“Lawmakers have privately reviewed details of the compact changes Ducey has negotiated, but the Governor's Office has only shared broad details with the public.

Ten professional sports teams and 10 tribes can acquire sports betting licenses under the bill. All can offer mobile betting. The off-reservation sportsbooks also can offer betting at sites within five blocks of their sports facilities.

The sports-betting license holders could contract with online wagering companies such as FanDuel Group or DraftKings. “

Too difficult for scheduling. They'd play out of Tucson if they had to.

How are they making payroll if they owe $250k of back taxes?

That’s… not a lot.

They’ll pay the back taxes just before the deadline or take legal action.

They will never miss payroll.

Houston or KC long before QC. Both have arenas also, and no conference juggling.

Lots of talk about Houston or KC but would Milwaukee ever work for an NHL team? There is a hockey fan base in Wisconsin, the Bucks arena can host hockey, and they’d have an instant rivalry with Chicago.

I’m getting the feeling that nobody read the articles I posted.

Read them, as you will quickly understand why the Coyotes are 100% staying in Arizona.

Only Pro sports franchises and 10 tribes are being given gambling licenses.

Nobody is selling out with that kind of revenue stream, available.

Move Detroit back to the West, they belong there anyhow.
