Very surprised. Thought he'd spend another year in the NCAA but the Flames clearly like him.
His offense picked up a little bit this year which is nice and he was highly regarded as one of, if not the best defensive defenseman in his draft

Little surprised to see him go pro. Thought he would spend at the minimum another year in college. Welcome to Calgary/Stockton!

Nice. He is projecting positively and he has the size and skating to at least develop in the AHL. Maybe 2 years down there and he will be called up.

Thought he would return for another season, but I am ok with this move. Probably needs another season at least in the AHL, but his size and skating ability is there already. Just needs to get a lot of games in now, so I think developmentally it makes a lot of sense here. Undersized players, or players that need a lot more development time really benefit from a long NCAA experience, but I don't think Kuznetsov is one of those.
Really looking forward to how he develops. I see him being a minute-munching top 4 defencemen you can use in all situations - not too much of an offensive ceiling (but who knows?), but already seems to have strong gap control and willing to engage physically. Terrible World Juniors overall IMO, but he is young.

Yeah, I don’t think this is the right move. No sense taking someone out of a league until they’re playing a top role in the one you’re moving them to.
Maybe they figure with the later shifted season, he can get in and up to speed in the AHL and get a good taste to come in next year.

I see this mostly about trying to get Yan into playing games. His NCAA season was already over, and he wouldn't be back on the ice until September or October at the earliest. He can play games in the AHL right away, which should help more than it will hinder him.
