Default Bruce Dowbiggen vs. esksfans

http://www.canada.com/calgaryherald/...93893f&k=43570

Looks like our buddies to the North have gotten under his skin (there was an e-mail campaign against him after his column on Monday where he said 1) the Esks bought the cup, 2) that it was a boring game). While he does have what many consider to be a valid point (buying the Grey Cup, not him saying it was a boring game), he's gone about this in a very unprofessional manner by turning it into a ****ing match.

Here's what he should have said:
"It seems I've angered some Eskimo fans with my column on Monday. I stand behind what I said and here's why __________________".

The Herald should be embarassed that they 1) printed this, 2) printed people's real names.

Terrible.

EDM cheats. Already way over the salary cap, then they add a player like Troy Davis. Faking injuries after almost every play. Pass interference on almost every play.

Ted Hellard said on the Fan today that what the Esks did in the Troy Davis trade was pretty slimy, and was something that would not be permitted in the NFL.

There are no winners in this battle only two big losers. Dowbiggen is right (which may be a first) that the Esks did buy the cup and the Eskfans are right that Dowbiggen is an idiot.

Bicycle Bruce ****ing fans off with arrogantly narrow opinions? You dont say!

Have at em, Eskfans.

And while the Eskimos bought the Cup, I'd be willing to place money that two thirds of the league was over the cap, so that argument rings hollow.

That little coach jumping around at the end was the highlight of the game. If he's ever a superhero his name should be "Pearshape Boy".

That snooty magazine "Avenue" has quite a write-up about everyone's favorite Bruce in the December issue. It's not available online but a couple interesting parts: 1) he wanted to be a playwright and actually had plays that he wrote performed by real gosh darn theater groups 2) he had the scoop about Hamrlik signing 3) he lives in Signal Hill 4) he got the cold shoulder from lots of hockey people after he "outed" Eagleson as a crook.

I'd say three thirds of the teams were over the cap. It's just that Edmonton was $1M over what 6 or 7 or the other 8 teams spent. Did the Esks buy the Cup? Yep. Is that illegal in a league that doesn't enforce it's salary cap? I guess not. Is it fair to all teams? No.

what about publishing people's e-mails (and their names) with the intent of mocking them? That's what kinda irked me about the article.

on another note, I believe that 2 of the letters are Eskimo fan posters on some the CFL messageboards....they've been in contact with the Herald Sports editor...and confirmation is needed by Dowbiggen in order to publish someone's name. The editor was 'under the impression' that this had been done, but it hadn't.

I seem to remember reading an article which stated that all of the CFL teams were over the "salary cap" this season, to varying degrees.

HaHaHa 3*1/3 = three thirds - heheheh

Anyways - every team is over the cap, the cap is simply there to limit the salary of the practice roster guys. Edmonton is blessed with the best place to watch football in the entire league - I have watched CFL games in every city (minus montreal) and thre is no comparrison. And as such they have the highest turn out and most money.

After moving down here I figured I would get some stamps season tix just because I am football crazy and McMahon is a dump. Reminds me of Taylor Field.

Calgary would be in the same position as emdonotn if it wasnt for the dump they call McMahon. The one bad thing about the CFL catching on is that all the bandwagon fans in the big cities (TO, VC, MTL) are going to start to go to the games because its the "thing to do". That is goiong to create problems because even thought there are tonnes of yuppies in Alberta with too much money - there are way more in the above 3 cities with way more money.
