An interesting countdown at www.woxy.com

WOXY.COM: 97 best of 2005 - dec. 14 and 15
The 22nd Annual 97 Best Countdown is too big a deal to contain to one day so this year, we'll spread it out over two. We're scouring over all of the releases we officially playlisted this year - that'd be over 400* full-length CD's, EP's & singles - to come up with a 97 Best list that we feel best represents what WOXY.COM was about this year.

Consider this your invite (no RSVP necessary): Weds., Dec. 14 & Thurs., Dec. 15 from Noon - 4p EST, Barb, Shiv & myself will count 'em down AND for the first time ever, we'll be able to archive the entire 97 Best so you can listen to an on-demand stream of the countdown for up to two weeks after it airs. It's always a lot of fun, so make plans to join us.

If you'd like to see last year's list, have at it: http://www.woxy.com/music/best.php

Lets see, in no particular order . . .

Spoon - Gimme Fiction
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
The Constantines - Tournament of Hearts
Gorillaz - Demon Days
New Pornographers - Twin Cinema (Only picked this up after the last music thread but it is, simply put, amazing. . . quite possibly my favourite album in the past few years)

From what I've heard from Sufjan Stevens new album I would put that up there as well. The only reason I don't have it listed is because I haven't heard the entire album yet. The songs Chicago and Come On! Feel The Illinoise! are pretty cool though.

That's pretty much what's coming to mind right now.

How good is the new Darkness? Queen is my favorite guilty pleasure. I've heard Ticket to Hell is not as good as the debut, but it does sound like a good laugh. There is a pan flute solo to start the CD I understand. What are the best songs?

Most of the albums mentioned here are just great.

Sleater Kinney - The Woods = WOW

My biased recommendation, from Portage la Prairie:

Propagandhi - Potemkin City Limits

Dear god Lanny. If Jordan gets made fun of for his consumption of coolers you should now be ridiculed on a regular basis for the fact you like Hoobastank.

Naw. Hoobastank ranks right up there with Nickelback.

However, to illustrate my own **** poor taste in music I will admit to really liking the new Prozzak single.
