Johhny should be in the early to mid 6ish range on an eight year deal if anything based on this contract.

serious? Gaudreau has better offensive numbers and that is usually what guys are paid based on

There are more than points but thinking he should take a low six deal lol...that is why we can't have nice things. Teams would be lining up to give him 7.5

I also don't think people realize how good offensively Gaudreau has been despite playing with average at best talent

Couturier is an elite shutdown center.
Couturier has a Selke trophy.

If Johhny is looking to get paid based on his 99 point season three years ago we are best to move on. Taylor Hall got 4x6 and he's only 4 years removed from a hart trophy.. Recent production matters.

Additionally giving that 8th year to a would be 29 year old should significantly decrease the AAV.

Johnny is the main offensive weapon for the Flames. They need to pay him.

Couturier is a beast of a hockey player, one of the best all around centers in the game. Be interesting since this sets a baseline for other contracts coming up in near future, one comparable I see is Barkov.

If Johnny wants $7.75 million instead of $7 million, you just pay him IMO. Using his numbers from the last two years to try and beat him down, is only going to ensure that he walks. The organizational problems over the last two years go way beyond Gaudreau. To then turn around and say...well you didn't produce as much as you did before (while the organization was in shambles without a proper coach) is ridiculous.

Gaudreau is a legit PPG winger who generates the offence for this club. Without him, unless a player like Eichel is being brought in, you blow it up.
