Default RIP Tony Esposito

https://www.tsn.ca/chicago-blackhawk...t-78-1.1680269

The Chicago Blackhawks announced Tuesday that Hockey Hall of Fame goaltender Tony Esposito has passed away at age 78 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

Esposito played all but one of his 16 NHL seasons with the Blackhawks. He was a three-time Vezina Trophy winner (1970, 1972, 1974) and took home the Calder Memorial Trophy as top rookie in 1970.
He is the all-time franchise leader in career wins (418) and shutouts (74) and his career NHL record of 423-306-151 ranks 10th in league history.
The Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. native was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1988, joining his brother Phil, who played 18 NHL seasons.

A great goalie and funny guy!

Sad to hear. Also one of the most iconic masks I remember when I was a kid, you could buy a street hockey version at Zellers.

Without Tony Esposito, Canada loses the 1972 series to the Soviets.

Farewell.

Always a huge fan of Tony O. He had some beautiful hockey cards.

While Dryden gets the attention, Tony started half the summit series games and had a better record.

Also part of quite possibly the awesomest goalie trio of all time with the Habs; the Gumper, Rogie and Tony O.

One of the all time greats.

They don't make 'em like Tony O any more....

I remember seeing pictures of some of the goalie equipment he wore. Here's one I found on Twitter.

Ouch.

One of those guys that everyone liked unless he played for your rivals.

15 shutouts in one season which i believe is still a modern day record.

RIP

So remember watching him on HNIC back in the day. The kids in our High School were all fans of his and the great debate was who was better? Esposito or Dryden? Espo was the "butterfly" guy while Dryden was the "stand up" goalie. Will always remember him in the 72' Summit Series as well. My money was always on Tony O.

Growing up Tony Esposito always seemed like that quintessential butterfly acrobatic goaltender that could make any save.

Guy has a great highlight reel.

Still remember watching him (and the Blackhawks) vs the Flames in their first round series in 80-81. As a kid at the time I enjoyed his style of play. RIP
