It's not like the Flames get first refusal on free agent signings though. If McCabe wanted to go to Chicago there's not much we could do outside of overpaying him significantly.

Ya it’s a tough look
Obviously Bowman and Hawks fans agree. Got a pick for an inferior player then used the cap on someone who is a lot better
Don’t know how high AAV we would have had to go to get him to Canada. Players like Chicago

Yeah I like McCabe and would have probably preferred this to Zadorov...of course McCabe would need to want to play here too.
McCabe is from Eau Claire, Wisconsin which is much closer to Chicago than Calgary.

It’s extremely, extremely debatable that Zadorov is inferior to McCabe, much less that McCabe is “a lot better”.
They Play the same role - defensive D - except Zadorov is 4 inches taller and 25 lbs heavier.
I’d bet my avatar Zadorov comes in cheaper too.

That is correct. I had some involvement on the development side when the Market first started and that is indeed where the name came from, and in particular the lumber company which was originally located there.

It’s debatable only if you really think size = effective defense
Any other metric for player evaluation is going to tell you McCabe is better at literally everything and it’s not even close

They do play the same role, except McCabe actually plays it quite well, Zadorov not so much.

We have a bunch of analytical darlings on our blue line, all of whom are better than McCabe.
We didn’t have a single big bruiser type, and it’s a valuable thing to have - they can’t all be show ponies.

Should have been the guy we brought in instead of Zadorov. However, the picture only becomes clear once contract is announced. If he comes in way cheaper its the way to go.
