Chris Tanev nominated for Masterton Trophy
@WesGilbertson
The Calgary chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association has selected defenceman Chris Tanev as the #Flames nominee for the Masterton Trophy. From my vantage point, Tanev certainly fits all the criteria — perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey.
@DarrenWHaynes
Undrafted Chris Tanev, 32, is in his 12th NHL season. Wears an ‘A’, the backbone of the Flames D, selfless shot blocker (yet has 204-game ironman streak), valued mentor, and is enjoying a career season offensively. He’s the PHWA Calgary chapter’s very deserving Masterton nominee.

Great choice by you media guys.
Epitome of a team first player.
I would argue he may be the best all around guy on the defense.

Okposo should be a finalist IMO ... guy was in the ICU a couple years ago and has defied the odds to become a 20-goal scorer again in Buffalo this year
I thought he was done for sure.

Not a Kane fan and obviously E=NG, but if they would have nominated Kane I would have laughed my ass off and tipped my hat to them just for the epic troll job. Missed opportunity.

Based on?
I'm not certain I know the story behind some of these nominees.
Tarasenko has come back strong from a pretty serious injury, he should get strong support.

What adversity did Getz face this season compared to Price? If I've missed something, happy to be corrected, but it's not a Retirement trophy.

Also Kevin Hayes with the loss of his brother. Price is a contender, but I feel like he may be more appropriate next year.
But Okposo would be my vote.

As we know, the Masterton is for "perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey."
True, he didn't really persevere anything that I can think of, but he definitely has shown exemplary sportsmanship and dedication.
Price has persevered, granted, but it could be too early to tell if he as succeeded through his perseverance or not. I'd be more likely to vote for him next season, if I had a vote of course.

Tarasenko would get my vote.
He was written off by a lot of people.

Okposo
Hayes
Boyle
Price
Chara (still serviceable at his age on a bad team)
Krieder (maybe stats inflated here)
All are great stories and are real character players for their teams success. Honestly Lucic could have been a nominated for this, but he kinda disappeared mid season for a bit.
Debrusk is a weird one for Boston. Requested a trade as recently as early season IIRC.
