So now who are they leaving open for Seattle?

I guess the better question would be who are they protecting, because I thought Kerfoot was already available.

They’re probably exposing McCann even though they just acquired him. Must feel strongly that Seattle will take someone else. Or there’s a side deal with Seattle.

Ok. They technically can, but who protects McCann over Kerfoot? The latter already considered to be likely unprotected. Assume the Leafs will leave both unprotected and expect Kerfoot to be picked.

They were never going to protect Kerfoot, before a deal they were expected to protect 4 and 4
They'll now expose Dermott and he'll most likely be picked

A lot of these deals make sense as many players are being moved that it would be hard to justify using a protection spot on. McCann is one of them. Now Toronto is only protecting quality younger players instead of veterans or minor league players nobody wants. Pens get an asset in return.

Mikheyev is exempt.
So maybe Simmonds in his spot?

Would have liked Flames being involved in McCann.
