Can't imagine there was a ton of coaches lining up to coach there.

This article is supportive (before the hire)

https://www.buffalohockeybeat.com/if...-be-wise-move/

It also notes that maybe some experienced guys would not be interested in a transitioning team like Buffalo.

Poor Sabres fans. They should just bring back Lindy Ruff.

That will instill confidence in trying to change Eichel and Reinhart's minds. What a fail that organization is...

There may be some firings to go as well. Maurice has 2 more seasons but I wonder if he’s on the hot seat after the collapse against the Habs. Bowness has one more year, which is when a lot of coaches get fired. There’s a few others in the same boat. If they ain’t fired now they will be if their teams have a slow start.

Apparently his coaching was a 180 from Kruger’s though. Dahlin loved him. So did the other young players like Cozens and Middelstadt. And his record was not awful considering the team limitations without Eichel and in goal.

I actually like this. It was night and day with our young players in the last 20 game or so and he was getting a lot out of a pretty depleted roster. No coach starts as a big name. We’ll see how it goes.

And I could give less than a #### about Eichel and the rest of the cry baby squad. He’s already played his last game as a Sabres as far as I’m concerned.

I think this was probably a good hire. Everyone improved under Granato, including Jeff "Worst Contract In the League" Skinner. I am curious to see how he rebounds next year under Granato (though even a fairly significant jump will still leave that contract as an awful one.

Solid move by the Sabres in my opinion. If you find someone that finally worked (even in a relatively small sample size under a weird season under Covid), best to try and continue with it.

Transitioning from a failed rebuild into a rebuild that will fail?

I mean Mittelstadt alone went from looking like another development F-up AHL burnout to a top 6 NHLer in like a month. He’s doing something bright.

Jack Eichel is on a new team by the end of the month. All coaching candidates who interviewed etc know he isn't staying.

Did you interview for the role?
