Pekka Rinne retires
https://twitter.com/user/status/1414726484124528641
Will go down as one of the two best Finnish goalies in NHL history. He and Miikka Kiprusoff — among others — were instrumental in beginning Finland's goaltending dominance.
I'd expect he'll have his number retired. One of the best goalies to never win a Cup, but he came close in 2017.

Didn't see that coming. Thought he was going to come back next season.

Rinne turns 39 in November, for what it's worth. The Preds aren't getting any closer to winning and I don't think he wants to leave Nashville.

that's the reason for retirement!
Seriously though, I really liked Rinne as a player - wish he had won a Cup for Nashville as that was a pretty cool run for them

Helluva career for a guy drafted in a round that doesn't even exist anymore.

Excellent goalie for a bunch of years, nothing but respect for him. A shame he never won a cup, given how strong his career was.

I think Pekka Rinne might've been the last player who was drafted in the 8th round or later.
Actually, Brian Elliott hasn't retired. Dustin Byfuglien is probably done though.

First number retirement from the Preds? I'd say he deserves it

Rinne was a beast in his prime. Time flies, as it feels like yesterday he signed that massive 7x7 contract, which was huge for the Preds at that time.

Wonder if Kasimir Kaskisuo made the right decision to head to the SHL as he probably would be the backup for Saros next season possibly. Been following his vlogs through and it sounds like he wants to improve his game outside of the NHL before coming back.

Hasn’t Ingram earned a look by now?

I guess it's the sign of the times that people are surprised a player this close to 40 years old is retiring. There seems to be a bit of a trend with well conditioned players being able to play later in their 30's.
