Shows how much hockey is a team sport when the top 3 players of the year didn't make it past the first round of the playoffs.

Crosby or Mathews hopefully... with all the pouting and defensive laziness McDavid showcases its hard not to overlook those aspects. Crosby and Mathews play a more complete team game while being individually dominant on their respective teams where as McDavid literally just expects that everyone knows he’s the straw that not only stirs the drink but makes and consumes it too.

Maybe, but this is voted on by the players so it carries some weight. way more than the Hart does.

looking at the winners list I think it does more accurately show the best player in any given year. pretty cool Mike Liut won.

It will certainly be McDavid.

Art Ross, Hart & Ted Lindsay are essentially one and the same.

Good to see Crosby is still that highly regarded by his peers. His all around game is still elite.

Yup. Love these stats too:

- Of the 17 best paid players in the league, only Carey Price is still playing.

- Carey Price also just became the first player ever with a 10M+ cap hit to win a playoff series.

I think the players don't dislike McDavid as much as a lot of fans (especially us) do. I think a lot are in awe of his skill level and just vote that way.

It's interesting that only 3 goalies have ever won, and none are named Roy or Brodeur. and one is named Liut.

I would have thought MacKinnon would get more votes from the players. I think he would win if CP was voting for awards, so for him to not to even be in the top 3 as voted by the players is interesting.

Funny. I think it shows that professional hockey players are not much better than fans in how they judge talent.

It is fairly unsurprising. Most players don't see much of each other as it is—to say nothing for how things have gone this season—so most of their impressions will be formed by the media coverage. This explains why two nominees come from the overexposed North Division.

McLotto wins for sure, just too dominant in the scoring race. Should be interesting to see if he drops back down in to the pack with recent Art Ross winners when he doesn't get to feast on Ottawa, Flames at their worst and Covid ravaged Vancouver all year.

I think players know that scoring = $$ and therefore they respect points a lot. They've essentially chosen the two highest point scoring centres plus Crosby. Or the highest points, the highest goals, plus Crosby.

I'd vote for Crosby just because he doesn't have a twitter handle.

NHL needs more social media presence, not the opposite. It's a joke that one of the greatest NHL players today is completely absent.

Ah, yes. Spoken like a jaded, jealous Flyers fan.

Crosby should just pay some college kid to run his socials. Could probably profit off of it

It's been proven how craptacular the North division was this year. They really should have had four finalists this year for each award, one from each division.

Well, “finalist” is really a misnomer IMO. It’s not like a “finals” where they each have a chance to win.

I don’t mind your suggestion but you’d have to completely revamp the awards system and have two votes - one in each division and then one for the finalists.

Probably McDavid wins it because he got over 100 points

Then his acceptance speech will include laughing because it was funny that Crosby and Matthews thought the award was for them
