The bottom-six wingers continue to befuddle me. Simon, Ritchie, and Leivo are basically gone already... why not show us Phillips and Philp?

Sutter’s comments about Size and Speed make me think Phillips really won’t be getting a real big chance here (and that Johnny’s time is also near an end).

Pretty sure they have to at least qualify a couple for the expansion draft.

The kids like Phillips are under contract, will have practice time, the summer, and training camp to see if they fit - and next season. Sutter and the flames have to make a call on people like Simon and Ritchie in weeks.

I can get the logic.

I would guess that they are being given an opportunity to audition for contracts next year. Honestly I wouldn't mind Backlund or Lindholm sitting so that Phillips could get a look and Dube could get a game or two at centre to see how he looks there.

Darryl coached Mackey’s dad in Saginaw (Blackhawks top farm team), during the 88-89 season.

What are these players going to show in the final games we don't already know completely?

I imagine Sutter wants veterans riding shotgun every time he gives a rookie a look. So those guys may well get a game as well, playing with veterans on their line.

I still can’t believe how ineffective Simon was.

Not like I was expecting a top 6 player or anything. But I was expecting a player.

Every one of the role players signed off season looked like they had value - Nordstrom, Leivo, Ritchie, Simon. I’d say only Nordstrom has made any impression on me in a positive way (well, Ritchie did beat up Khaira and that stood out). Even Nordstrom was a I guy I thought “hey he has skill, but can he ever not finish”.

Simon - I think the lesson going forward is that the fact that Crosby and Guentzel makes you look good doesn’t mean Monahan and Gaudreau will.

Johnny has become quite productive under Sutter so I don’t buy this…

Well with Sean’s injury I doubt he gets moved. So pick it’s either Johnny or Matthew.

They’ve had a lifetime to see Simon and Ritchie and what they can do.

Does anyone really think a few meaningless games can make any difference?

Sutter does know the Hawks won with Kane. Guadreau isn't Kane but he's playing alot more like Kane the last three four weeks. He's no longer trying to keep the puck and edging all over the side walls and then loosing it. He's picking his spots to flash his moves now and he's passing better. A little more Kane like IMHO.

Why? I bet none of those three move.

Doesn’t mean much when it comes to trading Johnny.

Sutter likes size and speed. A small forward who is producing down the stretch likely doesn’t sway Sutter’s opinion on what it takes to build a Championship team.

(I say this as a Johnny fan and who someone who thinks we should extend him if he wants to sign here, because we’re already starved for skill)

I’m honestly not against the approach, but it certainly stands in the face of Treliving’s drafting history - which while improved, hasn’t brought us any additional success.

…whatever approach we do take going forward, I hope it’s done to a higher level than what we’ve experienced in recent years.
