Good pick up, is Panik a cap dump or useful these days?

Panik is a meh third-liner. Might put up 20 points in NYI. I bet Trotz likes him.
Dunno why Detroit is doing this.

Surprised they retained but I guess they really don’t need to worry about cap space this season.

They are likely getting that Leddy will return a 1st at the deadline.

Edit: Nevermind, I read the trade wrong. I thought Detroit was getting the draft pick.

Sure but you shouldn't have to give up a 2nd to bail NYI out of this situation... and I think that's a big bet.
NHL GMs are losing their minds. Time to trade Giordano.

So you want to trade Giordano + a pick to get back a mediocre forward who probably isn't worth any more than the pick by itself? But why?

What? Detroit traded Panik and a 2nd for Leddy.
So that would be the Flames trading Gio for a 2nd and a player.

What? No. The going rate for aging defensemen on iffy contracts these days seems to be a 2nd +. If that deal is on the table for Giordano, they should take it right now.

Seems like win-win. Leddy probably gets selected by Seattle, so trading him and getting a pick is a bonus. Detroit gets a veteran D man who will have value at the trade deadline and gets Panik's contract partially off the books.

Detroit has an absolute ton of cap space and a pretty clean slate. Tons of flexibility. Of course Seattle is getting the most attention but it will be interesting to see what Yzerman does

Yzerman has to have his eyes on Wright/Bedard/Michkov. I imagine he’ll try and weaponize some cap space and get some extra picks.

Extra 2nd-rounders, or even lottery-protected 1sts, aren't going to get him one of those players. He'll have to find a bozo GM who will trade away an unprotected 1st when his team is about to collapse completely. It could happen, but I wouldn't count on it to be my Plan A.

If Giordano does get moved, prepare to be underwhelmed by the return.
