That's so awesome. I think it's relatively unlikely she plays for them as I believe she's going the Jr. A -> NCAA route, but I absolutely don't doubt she could play and even thrive in the OHL. She's apparently been dominant in Alliance AAA hockey.

Awesome, I know female hockey is not everyone's cup of tea but with two daughters who play and being deeply involved in the female program in our community I can say these stories are huge for our female game. Regardless of whether it pans out.
Mentors and role models, we can't have enough. Regardless of where you stand it is about keeping our girls in the game (any game?) and active. The girls pay attention to these stories, the female hires, the PWHPA and NWHL games and it does help them with goals and dreaming of a future in hockey.
Love it.

I really wish women’s hockey would evolve and stop having them wear cages. I really think they’re missing out on some huge marketing and exposure. You can’t tell who’s who everyone looks the same and that’s no good, especially for new fans.

They should try putting names or numbers on the backs of the jerseys.

My sister played for the Dinos and she told me it’s because not many women want to walk around with missing teeth, scars, and broken noses. So I can understand it from that perspective.

Yeah, this is less a women's hockey thing, and much more a reflection of social norms where a woman's value is still much more closely connected to her appearance than a man's. Scars, missing teeth and deformities that come as a result of combat and sports, I think, are largely considered "badges of honour" among men, and we are nowhere near seeing that same sort of valuation among women who continue to be much more heavily stereotyped by their appearance.

Manon Rheaume played a couple of exhibition game periods for the Tampa Bay Lightning, in 1992 and 93, and had a 7 team journey through the IHL, ECHL, and WCHL for a 24 appearance minor league career, as the first female player to crack the North American professional ranks.
Wishing luck and success for Currie in whatever is in store for her.

Doesn’t the NCAA require men and women hockey players to wear cages face guards?
I'm guessing she will at least be a beast for Canada in the Olympics, assuming she sticks with hockey
She played in AAA boys leagues for the last 7 years. She said that they play faster, shoot harder and are more competitive and that's what she likes. It will be interesting to see if the Canadian women's group invite her, or go with someone who plays with them instead.
