Servalli says it is related to the statement. Gorton and Davidson tried to distance themselves from the statement calling for the firing of Paraos
Frank Seravalli
@frank_seravalli
Sources say that #NYR president John Davidson and GM Jeff Gorton scurried to distance themselves from the team statement that was issued on Tuesday night, telling other executives that they did not know it was in the works until after it was released.

LOL wow that's pretty crazy. I get that the statement may have not gone down well in NHL circles but this is a massive organizational shift at a time when they are in the middle of a rebuild.

So, are they fired for not supporting the statement or are they fired for not preventing the statement from happening?
Either they aren't towing the company line or they aren't in the know of what's going on when they should be.

If it is true that these two turned on their team because of the statement then good on the Rangers for having some balls and standing up for their players.
IMO this does not reflect well on either of the two fired, shows their true character. They valued their own image amongst their peers and the league more than they cared about the safety and well being of their players. Self preservation at its finest.

Trouba contract isn’t much better than Skinner’s and they gave up a lot just to sign him to a bad deal when he wanted to go there anyways

Really might be too early to make those proclamations. Though I would agree if its made clear that they definitely disagreed with the statement.

Dreger says it is not related to the statement
Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
I’m told the firing of Gorton and Davidson by NYR is coincidental and not related to the statement issued yesterday related to Tom Wilson. Another source says ownership felt the Rangers underachieved this season.

Elliotte Friedman
@FriedgeHNIC
Like many of you, I assume this had to do with the events of the past 48 hours. I don’t believe Davidson/Gorton had anything to do with last night’s NYR statement; it was Dolan-driven....(1/2)
Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
However, there is word Dolan was unhappy with this NYR season and wanted to make a change. Seems crazy to me, because they have a come a long, long way in two years...but he’s the owner.

I generally like to take people at face value and believe what they say.
