Flames Reference in The Crash Palace by Andrew Wedderburn
I'm reading The Crash Palace by Andrew Wedderburn right now. Wedderburn is from Okotoks and was in the band Hot Little Rocket, which I'm sure some CPers came across at some point during their many years contributing to the local music scene.
The novel is set in and around Calgary with a main character that grew up in Canmore. In the description of "The Crash Palace" the book is titled after this Flames reference pops up:
Always cool to support a local author so I thought I'd share.

Not surprising. He's a long standing member on here and a great dude.
I'll let him decide if he wants to out himself or not.
That's awesome!
"Like Killers" is one of my favourite songs ever. I called into X92.9 (probably Summer 2008) when they were doing a local music competition to request it and the woman on the other end asked me if I was in Hot Little Rocket.

Very cool... but I'm not sure that card actually exists.
Number 12 in red and yellow means that he'd be wearing his home/white jersey. As far as I know, all of his "regular issue" hockey cards show him in his red jersey; he does have an old Red Rooster card with him in his white jersey but he's not wearing his helmet in that one.

I know, I'm a hockey card nerd...
I don't think it is saying the number is in red and yellow. It's calling Loob "Number 12" and he's in red and yellow.
Close, but that’s definitely a hockey sticker (Panini I think).

Good point. When I read it the first time, it sounded like he was describing the card itself. However, it’s also possible he was describing the player.

This is a really great album, I still listen to it once in a while.
So good. I love all their albums. When I first heard Steve Albini was producing How to Lose Everything I thought they might hit it big with that album. It's so good.
