Default Red Sox sue for custody of ball

http://www.tsn.ca/mlb/news_story.asp?id=145264

another reason to hate the Sox. What a bunch of jerks. Isn't it tradition for the last person to get the ball to decide who gets it?

If a fan had caught it and kept it, then its no contest. The fan owns it.

Because a ball player, an employee, caught it and kept it, the ball never left the field of play and remains property of the ball club and should be returned to the club.

I think the Red Sox are acting appropriately.

But we all have an opinion!!!

I think they're being idiots. Mientkiewicz has even let the Sox display it. They would have looked a lot better had they worked out a deal in private with they guy.

Why would they work out a private deal for something they already own?

Does that mean a chambermaid can keep the coffeemaker in a room Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie slept in and then sell it back to the hotel?

It's great the guy caught the ball. Hooray!! Either throw it in the stands or give it to the club when they ask for it. That's it. Those are the choices. I've got no sympathy for the guy whatsoever. It doesn't belong to him. Fork it over.

Hopefully the Red Sox lose this battle. I don't really see why they feel the need to go after a guy that played well for them and was smart enough to keep the ball when he had the chance. It seems a little and not surprising that the Red Sox feel the need to take legal action.

Mike Timlin still owns the ball from the Jays first Series, as do many players who were fortunate enough to catch the final out. When did it suddenly becomes the team's right to get the ball?

Seems petty to me on the part of the Sox.

i say good on him for keeping it - he was smart enough to grab it, so what the hell.

besides, if there is already precident of players keeping the ball, why should this be any different?

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

So, he has enough ownership to be able to give it away, but not enough to keep it?

Not trying to be agrumentative; I do see both sides of this. However if precident says the player keeps the ball, then I would say he keeps it.
