Post Calgary Flames Dear John Letter

Dear Calgary Flames Organization,

I'm sorry to write you this letter.. but you must admit it can't be that shocking for you. Nights like tonight have been far too common lately. It used to bother me watching you embarrass yourself in front of our neighbors up the road, but now I don't feel anything for you other than pity.

You have to admit.. Our relationship has been abusive for while now.. From both sides. I always expected more from you - that's my fault. Time and time again you would get my hopes up just to let me down, especially in the big moments.

When we met I was young and frankly, with the perspective of time I can see now that I was a bit naïve. I didn't really know what I was getting into when things started between us. Oh sure, we've had our good times, but 04' was a long time ago and it's hard to see how we can get back to that now. Little Iggy is all grown up and left the city a long time ago and now there's no one around to replace him.

I think it's been hard for me to accept you as you are, every year you keep saying the same things. How you'll change... Sure you've tried a few things. You bring in a new goalie, a coach, and I respect that you even tried seeing a sports psychologist for a while. I know you're trying in your own special way. Yet the results are always the same, and I'm all out of patients (not that you could even really play hospital hockey these days).

I can't continue watching you do this to yourself year after year. It's time to wake up and look in the mirror: You're living in a fantasy world of perpetual mediocrity. It's time for you to swallow your pride and seek help at the draft. If you really want to change, there's a nice NHL basement suite available. Stay there for a few years, work on yourself and maybe we can talk about getting serious again one day. Until then, I'll be in Seattle with Uncle Ron.

Best Wishes,
Fan

I can't put my finger on it but weren't you the poster that made a letter to something Flames related that backfired spectacularly? Anyone remember that? Cory Sarich or something?

Ah yes, this was it. An open letter to Cory Sarich, one of my favourite threads ever. I remember being so mad at SouloftheFlame's thread and then so happy at the responses to it.

Next time you feel the need to get your face beaten in, please slam it in a locker, walk into a wall, or take a swan dive towards the ice while grinning like a mad man.

Do not, under any circumstances, continuously pick and lose fights whenever your team is up 3 goals in a game, thus getting the opposing team back in the game.

Furthermore, if you insist on getting a facial pounding, don't take an instigator penalty beforehand.

Yours Sincerely,

The Fans.

Memo to Cory Sarich:

Continue to apply the beat downs, be a +4 and assist on two goals.

Yes I was living in Australia and day drunk out of my mind 13years ago! I'm glad I made an impression on you.

Yep, haha. If he didn't have the "open letter" thing again and signed off as "fans/fan" I wouldn't have remembered, but those two things triggered a memory.

Upon finding the thread I remember being so mad at that thread back then haha (along with many it would seem) as Sarich had an incredible game. Like the followup said, he was +4, 2 assists and stuck up for a team-mate in that fight. You literarily couldn't ask more out of a defencman in a game, everyone was stunned.

I actually really liked Roy for some reason. That big beer league hockey style of standing on the bench in a big relaxed stance and **** eating grin, just waiting for some rough stuff to break out so he could go fight.

Seeing this team now and looking back to the 2000's, it actually reminds me that even though we didn't take that core far enough there sure were a lot of characters and likeable players along the way.

Almost every player in this core/build is just so meh or unlikable or forgettable. Back then we'd always have the core plus two or three non core guys that made the season more fun either through craziness/fighting/scoring/hard style/effort etc.

I know there were many fans from the era that didn't share my enthusiasm, but when we signed Tanguay that was just otherworldly for me. Seeing him wear the jersey for the first time and then seeing his amazing puckhandling skills in person was one of my top memories as a Flames fan.

And his shot when he decided to use it was actually quite lethal.

I still remember seeing Jokinen's first game and being so excited.

That turned out well.

The flyers game, I think? Yeah, that felt like the beginning of a Stanley Cup run at the time.

I remember being pumped when they had Hnat Domenichelli, Jarome Iginla and Serhiy Varlamov on a line during the preseason.

Yeah, it was weird hey? Even during the young guns era there was something that got you going or told you the future could be better (even though we were a feeder team back then), most years.

Now it feels like literally anyone could be announced in a trade for futures and I'd go "heh, cool".
