Johnny Gaudreau to play his 500th NHL game
Not much to cheer about these days... but the Flames put out a nice video commemorating Johnny's 500th NHL game tonight:

Half way to a 55 flex silver stick. Well done Johnny.

Shouldn't you be getting ready for the game, Darryl?

Time flies. Lots of great regular season moments.
He does seem like a good kid with a good personality.

crazy. Feels like just yesterday Hartley was chasing the rookie of the year candidate around in Vegas to make sure he went to bed on time.

Man, he can be such a dynamic and exciting player when he's on his game. It's a shame we haven't seen much of that lately.

He was awesome in the 2015 playoffs.
That goal he scored late against ANA to tie it (Flames won in OT) is one of my favourite Flames goals. The Dome went nuts that night.

Yep. When your 4th round pick turns into a point per game player - you should be a perennial contender
Assuming you don't whiff on your 4th overall pick...

I'm hard on Johnny, mainly because we've seen he's capable of so much when he's on.
He's one of my all-time favourite players, yet I'm conflicted on what the Flames should do with him next.
On the one hand I think moving him for a cost-controlled young asset (or 2) would be smart... I'd also be on board with trading whatever combo of Tkachuk, Monahan, +, it took to get Eichel in order to pair him with Gaudreau. A play-driving elite #1C with Gaudreau would be incredible.
Either way, it's been a lot of fun watching and covering Gaudreau all these years and I'll be a fan of his regardless of where he ends up.

Meanwhile, Baertschi and Wotherspoon are playing in the AHL and Granlund is in the KHL.

Or, at least try him with Lindholm at centre and somebody else on the other wing (like Dube, maybe...?) before deciding whether or not to trade him. The danger of trading Gaudreau is that you better get a helluva return...
Given the current circumstances, I don't know why they don't at least try this, especially before they're mathematically eliminated...those "play out the string" games aren't especially reliable, so, turning on the blender at that time is too late...

In terms of just pure skill... where does he rank all time for us? Is he just behind Nilsson?

The most under appreciated Flames of his time. He gets railed on here for doing the job of a center admirably even though he’s a winger. I think I posted a stat the other day that had him ranked #6 in scoring since he arrived to this league behind only McDavid, Kane, Crosby, Kucherov and Marchand.
It’s gonna be tough to find another player who can produce anything close to what Gaudreau has done for this team over the last 7 years.
