Default Jets 5 Flames 1

Game Takes: Jets 5 Flames 1

- Flames solid to start
- Jets goalie better than Flames goalie
- Need to sweep this series to stay alive ... didn't happen

Nice writeup Bingo.

I am questioning effort on the Tkachuk backcheck. He was looking for a shortcut, and I was awfully disappointed in his decision there.

And as you say, another game where their goalie better than ours.

once again the Flames were dominated on Hockey Stats cards

The Flames had 7 guys with outright bad games, The jets had 5 guys with Great games.

The bad Gio showed up with the worst rating as a Flame skater.

Just outside the Jets blue-line with clear unhurried possession (with the Flames trailing) he does a soft ring around uncontested giveaway.

Looking at the line ups it is hard to believe that these teams have the same salary cap.

You're just not using those stats correctly.

They are outcome stats, not how a team is playing stats. A team with a 5-1 win is going to have great "game scores" because they have the goals and assists to fuel them.

To summarize a 5-1 game and say look at all the Jets is sort of obvious.

The actual game flow stats had the Flames with an edge in five on five shot attempts, a slight edge in high dangers chances, and a slight edge in overall expected goal splits.

But within that and using your stats is the ultimate summary ... where one team's skill players can finish, the other can't. One team's big goaltender is playing big, the other isn't.

Individually it certainly works. Guys with three point games have had good nights, Giordano was -3 so he gets hammered in their system.

But it doesn't 100% say how a team or a player is playing ... a player could be -3 through no fault of their own for example (not the case this time in my mind).

Calgary did not play a horrible game, they lost and didn’t get any breaks.

Not to say they got robbed, but it was a fairly even game.
