GERBER STEPS IT UP
Team rebounds from stinker

The Sabres ended their 6 game in 6 night streak with 5 wins, the last one coming as a 3-0 victory over Quebec. JS Giguere won the goaltender of the week after 4 solid games, but then layed an egg against Carolina becoming increasingly fatigued in the process. As a result he sat in the pressbox as Peter Budaj was called up to relieve Martin Gerber. Gerber pitched a shutout playing his best game of the year.

Up front the winning goal was scored by rookie Petr Vrana making his return to the Sabres lineup. Scott Gomez led the Sabres with three points. The Sabres now have a game off prior to meeting the Flames.

Storr Comes Up Big

Consider the question of back up goalie answered.

Jamie Storr was considered to be one of the weak spots of the Minnesota Wild heading into the season. However, Storr has estbalished himself as a quality back up posting wins against the likes of the Thrashers, Panthers and Canadians.

His latest win against the Habs was a gritty 2-1 victory that saw the Wild play just well enough to win.

GM Grant Farhall was happy with the win, but looking forward to seeing a new lineup tomorrow.

"This was a gutty victory for us after dropping a couple of tough ones. Alex Mogilny returned and got a big goal for us but this game was really all about Jamie's efforts in the net."

Game Notes
- The Wild made a series of roster moves in order to accomodate Ilya Kovlachuk's arrival and pricey salary. Milan Michalek and Ales Hemsky were sent to the minors. Chris Campoli was recalled after 1 game down in the AHL, along with Lee Stempniak.
- It is unclear if Hasek or Storr will get the starts against the Wings

Wings get SPANKED. It was the Pyatt-Holik connection that did us in as both players collected 4 points. Burke crapped the bed and will be benched tomorrow night vs the Wild.

Bertuzzi stretched his point streak to five games with the Pens by adding 2 goals in a 3-2 victory over Anahiem. Alexander Daigle continued to use the space Bertuzzi creates to his advantage adding 2 assists and sending his point streak to 6 games. Alexander Frolov added 2 assists and Jose Theodore continued his strong play with 28 saves. Next up for the Pens is a matchup against the tricky Devils at Mellon Arena.

Colorado wins fourth straight
The Avalanche have won their fourth consecutive game, defeating the Sharks 3-2.
Friesen netted two goals and Leclerc added a third in the victory. Smolinski and Cowan responded for the Sharks.
Once again, tempers flared between these two rivals. Boyes got the rough stuff started with a dirty hit that landed him in the box with a double minor for boarding. The Avs responded with a couple of charging penalties.
Three stars were:
1 - Jeff Friesen (AVA)
2 - Chris Phillips (AVA)
3 - Bryan Smolinski (SHA)

HUSELIUS SCORES THREE IN VICTORY

Kristian Huselius of the New York Islanders celebrates with his
teammates after his third goal of the game.

UNIONDALE, NY - Kristian Huselius scored three times to lead the Islanders to a 5-2 thumping of the visiting Calgary Flames.

The Islanders got off to a quick start on Monday night with Kristian Huselius scoring twice in the first period, once at the 2:15 mark and again at 6:08 to jump out to a quick 2-0 lead over the Calgary Flames.

The game started off with some early 4 on 4 play after Jiri Hudler was the recipient of a Steven Reinprecht head-butt after Reinprecht felt Hudler's elbow warranted some retribution. The head-butt was the second time this season an Islander was the victim of WWE-like antics as Jordan Leopold was involved earlier on in the season in an incident with a Philadelphia Flyer.

Alyn McCauley would draw the Flames within one before the end of the first period slipping in his 6th of the season past Jocelyn Thibault.

The middle stanza saw two powerplays for the Islanders, including a double minor to Calgary defenceman Andreas Lilja, but despite pummelling rookie netminder Brent Krahn with 14 shots in the period, the game remained at a 2-1 score to start the third.

The Islanders would end up solving Krahn however in the third period, with Huselius (16), Roy (1), and Parrish (14) all finding the back of the Calgary net.

Huselius' goal in the third completed his hat-trick, while rookie forward Derek Roy got his 1st CPHL goal cleaning up on a rebound neatly left in the Calgary crease where he happened to be.

Mark Parrish continued his point streak scoring in the third, extending his streak now to 6 games with at least a point in each game. Parrish's 14th of the season also ushered the entrance of Miikka Kiprusoff whom the Flames had hoped would be able to have the night off.

Jocelyn Thibault faced only 22 shots on the night, surrending goals to Alyn McCauley in the first and Jarome Iginla in the third. Thibault has had a stunning month of November, going undefeated in 11 games, posting a remarkable
7-0-4 record in 11 starts, complimented by a sparkling 0.916 save percentage.

With the victory the Islanders are unbeaten in their last seven and sit in a tie with the Ottawa Senators for 5th spot in the Gretzky Conference with 36 points. The Islanders' next game is tomorrow evening where they find themselves in a key match-up against Shore Division rivals the New York Rangers.

Game Notes - Oleg Tverdovsky was crushed in the third period by Calgary Flames defenceman Adam Foote with a clean, open-ice hit... Tverdovsky left the game immediately and did not return... Initial word from team officials is a mild concussion which could keep the swift defenceman out for at least a few games... With his hat-trick, Kristian Huselius moved up to 2nd in the Islanders in goals behind only Chris Drury who leads with 17.

CHARA CHARMS CHICAGO

Certainly the fans in Chicago looked forward to Zdeno Chara taking the ice and making his presence felt in the game. For some odd reason the GM and coach of the Hawks decided to play Adrian Aucoin until he tired and as limp as a dishrag. Chara did manage to muscle his way to 21 minutes of icetime. But you would think he would have racked up 29 minutes instead of Aucoin. Both D men did an admirable job, but maybe, just maybe 29 minutes is a little long even for iron man Aucoin.

Chara did keep big man Mats Sundin off the board tonight. Paired with fellow new Hawk Martin Skoula, Chara allowed Skoula to shine. He was named 1st star and collected 3 assists.

This was a very exciting game for Hawks fans. The new boys and the old familiar players did not disappoint tonight!!

We beat the Bruins

Damnit, damnit, damnit. 40 shots on goal allowed. Just 5 for 8 on the penalty kill. 18 shots on goal. Outshot 17-4 in a period. Back to back terrible games against the Blues and Avs. At least Alex Perezhogin continues to impress with 6 points in 5 games since coming over from St. Louis. Krys Kolanos is also steady scoring 12 goals so far. Could be a Star or two moved before too long, as we begion to focus on the draft. This season is OVER!!!

Condition submission

Once again the Hurricanes get outplayed by a tired goaltender, this time the Canes faced off against Ed Belfour and the Phoenix Coyotes. The Hurricanes came out flying in the opening period out shooting the Coyotes 14-5 but remained tied in a scoreless game as the headed into the 1st intermission.
As the players heading into their respective dressing rooms, Hurricanes GM stormed passed the local camera men interviewing Mike Comrie, as Hanna proceeded to pass the playmaking center Hanna reached out and grab the short center by the collar rag dolling him into the dressing room before him. Where then Hanna proceeded to slam the door behind him letting out a serious of verbal tirades that could be heard throughout the corridor.
The Hurricanes can out in the second playing with the emotion that has been lost in their game for the past few games. Alexander Ovechkin opened up the scoring with a wraparound that trickled the puck off Belfour’s left skate. Ovechkin, who’s recent play has been a rebirth of some sort as he continued his 9 game point streak which includes 6 goals in his last 6 games.
Just as the Hurricanes seemed to be turning that corner coming off a win in Buffalo and now dominating the Coyotes through two periods of play came our for the third hesitant and off 3rd. Almost as if the players were already accepting defeat after Ilya Kovalchuk tied the game up at 1-1. The Coyotes wasn’t no time on capitalizing on the Canes panic and lit the lamp two more times with goals by Marcus Ragnarsson and his defensive partner Andrei Markov.

The Hurricanes next mach up is with the 10-14-6 New Jersey Devils as both teams looking to limp back into the playoff dreams.

Game Stars
1 - Martin Rucinsky (LIG)
2 - Marian Gaborik (KIN)
3 - Keith Tkachuk (KIN)

Sharks Bite Yet Again!

The Sharks agin came out on the wrong end of the decision. There is a need for a shake-up in the Shark Tank and GM TaejeonGuy is working the phones. The problem is that there is little to work with that is going to net any reasonable returns. The best player is Smolinski yet he is also the most likely to be dealt. Stay tuned as this story develops further...

GM NoPants was very pleased to see the Blues show up last night. After a rough few outings, the pressure was on to compete against a struggling Stars team. Considering the Blues penchant for giving up 2 points to division rivals, this effort shows that the players still do care about getting into the playoffs.

Former Blue Alexander Perezhogin had a strong night against his old club, while Selanne and Straka set the tone with 3 point nights. Less impressive was newly acquired Kyle Calder, who was held off the scoresheet. A 3 for 8 PP certainly helped, and the entire Blues bench enjoyed a good laugh as Adam Mair got beat up by Matthew Barnaby.

Cujo, while playing a strong game overall, may need a bit of a rest...while the Blues played a stingy 3rd period allowing only 5 shots, he managed to let 2 of them in. Perhaps he'd dozed off?

St Louis ponders Cup run in Georgia!

PREDATORS 1
KUBINA(6)
Curtis Sanford 19 saves, L, 4-2-1
THRASHERS 5 CARTER(16) CONROY(8) HEDICAN(2) STLOUIS(10,11)
Patrick Lalime 26 saves, W, 20-5-1

Martin St Louis fresh off the owners jet from Chicago waxed poetic about his chances at a CPHL Stanley Cup on Monday afternoon.
"ya know all I want ees a chance at de cup" the effervescent player stated.
Coach Peterson smiled and placed Marty on the 1st line with Craig Conroy and winger Bill Guerin. The trio hit it off immediately as Marty scored two goals in his Georgia premiere and lifted the Thrashers to a resounding 5-1 win over the Predators.
Patrick Lalime and Scott Niedermayer also both seemed to get a lift from the little scorer and lifted their games once again as all 3 received stars of the game.

Thrashers next game on Wednesday in Atlanta vs the Senators....who will be seeing Red!

Man I know you're happy about bringing St. Louis to Atlanta but could you have picked a better picture then that. Luckily the NHL didn't just add another ring to the shiny silver thingy or else it would have been towering over him

Oilers 5 - Rangers 2

Well the Coaching staff had to make a tough decision but the plan was to get the backup goalie into more games as their Starter needed a rest.

Its obvious allot of starters in the league are getting tired. Once that happens a losing streak will start. So with that plan Noronen played against the Thrashers and Oilers. He played very well picking up the win against the Thrashers but struggled against the Oilers. In the big picture winning 1 out of 2 with the backup is okay. Hopefully this will keep Roloson sharp. Coach confirm that Roloson will play against the Islanders on Tuesday.

Next Game vs Islanders
